About The Position

As the National Cemetery of Canada, Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services is dedicated to delivering high-quality service to honor ancestors and set a precedent for future generations. Located on Beechwood Avenue in Ottawa, we operate on a not-for-profit basis and provide funeral, cemetery, and cremation services. We are growing our team and looking for a Funeral Director Assistant to join our Funeral Services team. Requirements

  • Smart Serve Certification (required)

Responsibilities

  • Assist Funeral Directors to conduct funeral services in our Sacred Space, at churches, gravesides, or our Crematorium. This could include setting up and managing Livestreams during the service.
  • Set up event spaces for services, visitations, and receptions; such as arranging furniture, preparing catering and beverages stations, setting up flowers, placing the casket/urn, organizing stationery, configuring music and audio/visual equipment, and displaying family belongings.
  • Greet families and acting as a host/hostess during receptions, including serving alcohol (Smart Serve required), and support bereaved families and friends from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Clean and restore event spaces after each event; and performing general maintenance duties, light housekeeping-ensuring the space is clean and tidy at all the times.
  • Transport flowers, memorabilia, and other items to and from services and events.
  • Maintain the company vehicles in presentable manner and drive company vehicles, with or without passengers, as required.
  • Participate in implementing systems that increase the effectiveness and quality standards of the department and the organization as well as streamline processes, and may be called upon, from time to time, to work extended hours.
