About The Position

The Funeral Attendant plays a vital role in providing compassionate support and assistance during funeral services, ensuring that all aspects of the event proceed smoothly and respectfully. This position involves preparing and maintaining the funeral environment, assisting families and guests with their needs, and coordinating with funeral directors and other staff to uphold the dignity of the occasion. The Funeral Attendant is responsible for setting up venues, assisting with ushering the public and assisting with getting guests to sign the guest book. It may also include driving family, assisting with being a pallbearer and assisting with other duties that are associated with funeral and celebrations of life. This role requires a high level of empathy, professionalism, and attention to detail to create a comforting atmosphere for grieving families. Ultimately, the Funeral Attendant contributes significantly to honoring the memory of the deceased while supporting the emotional well-being of those in attendance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and standing for extended periods.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated sensitivity and empathy in dealing with grieving individuals.
• Empathy and strong communication are essential for interacting compassionately with grieving families and coordinating with team members effectively.
• Physical stamina and attention to detail ensure that the Funeral Attendant can manage the logistical demands of setting up and maintaining service areas with care.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in funeral services, hospitality, or customer service roles.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to funeral homes
• Valid driver’s license for transportation duties.
• Prior experience and knowledge of health and safety protocols enhance the ability to perform duties efficiently and safely.
• Multilingual skills improve communication with a diverse client base, fostering inclusivity and comfort.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and setup of funeral venues, including arranging seating, floral displays, and audiovisual equipment as needed.
• Greet and guide family members, guests, and clergy during services, providing assistance and information with sensitivity and respect.
• Handle the transportation and care of the deceased with dignity, following all health and safety protocols.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the funeral home and service areas before, during, and after events.
