About The Position

The Functional Area Specialist – Ammonia is responsible for the care, maintenance, and continued operability of the production support (Ammonia Refrigeration, Water Utilities, HVAC, and support utilities) equipment in accordance with quality specifications, federal guidelines and company policies. As the primary point of contact for the ammonia refrigeration system, this person performs in-depth preventative maintenance and necessary repairs to the ammonia refrigeration system and is responsible for training and support of the other FAS Utility Technicians.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required
Must be of Maintenance & Utility Technician and/or Functional Area Specialist level.
Maintains a continuous learning mindset and adapts quickly to new equipment, processes, and roles.
Demonstrates strong technical ability with a digital-first approach, embracing new technologies and accurately entering data.
Communicates clearly with all levels of the organization, follows instructions (written/oral/diagram form), and completes necessary documentation independently in English.

Physically capable of meeting job requirements and consistently brings a positive, team-focused attitude to work.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
In lieu of a degree, a RETA CIRO Certification and/or 5+ years of experience as an ammonia refrigeration operator, technician, and/or specialist is required.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive and daily maintenance checks on plant utility equipment, ensuring adherence to safety policies and Good Manufacturing Practices.
Serve as a technical lead, overseeing the work of Specialist and Technician mechanics, and providing necessary training.
Maintain accountability for all assigned equipment and tools, coordinating repair parts purchase with Utilities Supervisor approval.
Communicate maintenance issues effectively with the Utilities team and management, and be available off shift for emergency repairs.
Achieve required HVAC certifications promptly, and safely operate ladders, forklifts, pallet jacks, man lifts, and similar equipment.
