Fullstack Software Engineer Intern (Undergraduate)
About The Position
The WEX Summer Internship Program is a 13-week paid program running from late May to mid-August, designed to provide interns with real-world experience and skill development. Interns will work on impactful projects, contribute to WEX's mission, and receive mentorship, professional development, and weekly learning experiences. High-performing interns may have the opportunity to lead their own initiatives. The program offers remote, hybrid, and onsite options, with the goal of bringing top interns back full-time or offering extended roles during the school year. As a Software Engineer Intern, you will collaborate with engineers and Product Managers to address real-world business challenges, gaining hands-on experience in building scalable applications, learning modern engineering practices, and developing AI-driven features within a modern cloud architecture.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or a related field, having completed at least your Sophomore year prior to the start of the internship.
- Hands-on academic or project experience with React, C# / .NET, and SQL/NoSQL databases.
- Foundational understanding of high-level software architecture, microservices, or RESTful system design concepts.
- Familiarity or interest in AI agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Semantic Kernel) and LLM concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and eagerness to learn during a fast-paced internship.
Responsibilities
- Build user interfaces with React and backend services using C# / .NET, including basic database interactions and API development.
- Prototype and deploy AI agents or LLM integrations to automate workflows and enhance product capabilities.
- Gain hands-on exposure to high-level architecture principles, learning how microservices, APIs, and data flows connect across cloud systems.
- Apply TDD/BDD practices, work through the full software lifecycle, and receive mentorship from senior engineers on high-availability systems.
