Fullstack Platform Engineer

About The Position

Rime is a foundation modeling company that builds voice AI for enterprises running customer experiences at scale. Our models are purpose-built for high-volume conversational deployments, engineered for the accuracy, performance, and deployment flexibility that production environments actually demand. We started from a different premise than the rest of the field: build voice AI for human connection, not slop. Before we trained a single model, we built our own corpus: full-duplex, studio-quality conversational speech of normal people, recorded and annotated by linguists. It's why our models are unparalleled in naturalism, and it's why enterprises pick Rime when pilots need to make it to production. About the Role What you'll work on The Rime TTS API (Deno/TypeScript, PostgreSQL/Supabase, AWS), including performance-critical paths where latency directly affects product quality Product reliability, testing, alerting, and monitoring Scaling our infrastructure systems and deployment Billing and credit systems Deployment infrastructure: AWS EC2, CodeDeploy, ElastiCache/Redis, and our cron worker systems Integrations with our advanced Rust-based model inference engine for real-time speech Helping establish the engineering foundations: standards, tooling, and practices that will let us scale as a company Engineering team is still small, you’ll have a big impact!

Requirements

  • Strong backend fundamentals: you've built and shipped production APIs that handle real traffic under real constraints
  • 5+ years of backend/full-stack engineering experience
  • Comfortable working across the stack: TypeScript/Deno (or Node), Rust, SQL, cloud infrastructure, and deployment tooling
  • You care about latency and reliability and know how to measure both
  • Fluent with agentic development workflows: you use AI tools as a force multiplier and are thoughtful about where they accelerate good work
  • A communication style that's clear, direct, and mature: you write well, give useful feedback, and know how to align without a lot of overhead
  • Collaboration-minded: you can execute autonomously but genuinely enjoy working with others
  • Comfortable code switching
  • Bay Area based or willing to be: we strive to work together in person

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with voice, audio streaming, or real-time media systems
  • Familiarity with ML inference infrastructure or model-serving platforms
  • Prior startup experience (sub-100 people)
