About The Position

The Language Facilitator’s primary role is to facilitate communication between D/HH students and their classroom teachers, administrators, peers, and other school personnel. This position supports students who are D/HH with understanding of all auditory and visual information within the educational setting and facilitates communication between student and their classroom teachers, administrators, peers, and other school personnel. The facilitator collaborates with the teacher(s) of the D/HH program and other school personnel to ensure the needs of the student are being met. They monitor students’ comprehension and provide instructional and/or behavioral reinforcement as needed, under the direction of the teacher(s) of the D/HH program. Additionally, the facilitator introduces and explains vocabulary, repeats, and reinforces classroom instruction, fosters appropriate classroom communication strategies and student self-advocacy skills, and gradually leads students towards more responsibility for their own education and communicative competence. The role also assists teachers and administration with duties that contribute to the enhancement of the classroom environment while not interfering with the primary duty of language facilitation.

Requirements

• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in American Sign Language
• Ability to support students from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultural and ethnic groups
• Maintain standards of confidentiality
• No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of the essential job functions and responsibilities
• Ability to read and comprehend written program plans, instructions and other classroom essentials
• Strong organizational skills

Nice To Haves

• Proficient in American Sign Language
• Previous experience as a Language Facilitator
• Previous experience working with students who have language deprivation
• Effective interpersonal skills in both written and receptive/expressive communication
• Work independently and productively and willing to accept supervision and constructive feedback

Responsibilities
