About The Position

The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of San Diego (USD) invites applications for a nine-month contract teaching faculty position to provide in person instruction to begin September 1, 2026. There is a possibility of a renewal of the contract after the first year. This position is a full benefits-based position and requires face-to-face student instruction. Candidates from all areas of specialization will be considered. Immediate instructional needs include but are not limited to: electromechanical systems, circuits, electronics, embedded systems, electrical power, digital design, signals and systems, electromagnetics, microwave engineering and communications. In addition to some of these areas, the department is also interested in candidates who have a background or interest in intelligent systems. Selected candidate will be expected to teach courses equivalent to 9 – 12 units per semester. This is a full-time/temporary, benefit-based/position with an anticipated end date of August 31, 2027. The appointment is renewable at the discretion of the University and dependent upon performance and continued funding.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with a minimum of five years of experience in the industry or in academia (and candidates with a BS degree and ten years of experience, at least 3 of which are in teaching).
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the college level, or evidence of strong teaching potential for candidates coming from industry.
  • Breadth of competency across core EE content areas appropriate for undergraduate instruction (circuits, electronics, signals and systems, embedded systems, etc.).
  • Ability to provide face-to-face student instruction.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
  • Official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching laboratory courses.
  • Industry experience, particularly in product design, systems engineering, or applied EE.
  • Experience with or interest in capstone and senior design mentorship.
  • Familiarity with ABET accreditation processes and outcomes-based assessment.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or eligibility.
  • Background or interest in intelligent systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in person instruction to students.
  • Teach courses equivalent to 9 – 12 units per semester.
  • Teach courses in areas including, but not limited to: electromechanical systems, circuits, electronics, embedded systems, electrical power, digital design, signals and systems, electromagnetics, microwave engineering and communications.
  • Potentially teach courses in intelligent systems.
  • Supervise hands-on design projects.
  • Mentor undergraduate researchers or student competition teams.
  • Mentor students in capstone and senior design projects.
