Full Stack Software Engineer - AI Applications

Ford MotorDearborn, MI
Onsite

About The Position

This role is for an agent orchestrator who views the IDE as a cockpit for orchestration, not just a text editor. The ideal candidate is productively lazy, automating tasks and letting AI handle the heavy lifting while they focus on architecture and reviewing output. This position requires a strong understanding of fundamentals like data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and networking, with the ability to fix frameworks and identify incorrect AI output. The role emphasizes first-principles thinking, vision, and high agency, encouraging proactive problem-solving and a bias for action. Engineers are expected to ship v1, learn, and iterate rather than getting stuck in design reviews.

Requirements

  • Deep Python proficiency for production systems.
  • JavaScript/TypeScript experience with React, Node.js, or equivalent for both frontend and API development.
  • AI engineering skills, including experience with LLMs, embeddings, vector stores, RAG, and building agents and evaluation pipelines.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools and workflows, with a clear understanding of their capabilities and limitations.
  • GCP experience, including deployment and operation of services like Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, GKE, BigQuery, and Cloud Storage.
  • Proficiency with both relational and NoSQL databases, understanding their appropriate use cases.
  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices at scale.
  • Familiarity with Git, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, and CI/CD practices (e.g., Cloud Build).
  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience building and deploying full-stack applications in production.
  • 2+ years of experience with cloud-native platforms (GCP preferred).
  • Demonstrable experience building AI agents or applications.

Nice To Haves

  • MS degree (not a substitute for shipping software).
  • Frontend strength is a big plus.
  • Bonus for fine-tuning or AI evaluation work.

Responsibilities

  • Orchestrate agents to build applications using AI as the primary method of work, setting the standard for AI-driven development within the team.
  • Design and ship AI-powered applications and agents, including RAG pipelines, LLM integrations, and agentic workflows, ensuring production readiness and scalability.
  • Design, deploy, and operate cloud-native systems on GCP, taking ownership of architecture, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Build the integration layer across enterprise SaaS platforms, connecting disparate systems and creatively solving problems with messy APIs and legacy constraints.
  • Automate manual processes by writing code or directing agents to eliminate repetitive tasks.
  • Enhance other engineers' productivity by building tools, agent workflows, and guardrails that reduce friction.

  • Flexible family care days
  • Paid parental leave
  • New parent ramp-up programs
  • Subsidized back-up child care
