Full Stack Engineer 4 (Python, React, Networking)
About The Position
Capital One is seeking a Full-stack Software Engineer to help drive a major technology transformation. The role leads a portfolio of technology projects and provides technical direction to Agile teams developing distributed microservices and full-stack systems that address regulatory needs and deliver cloud-based customer experiences. The engineer partners with product managers and architects, establishes standards for design, development, and operational excellence, and contributes to technology strategy in a “you build it, you own it” environment. The role uses a range of programming languages, databases, container orchestration technologies, and AWS tools and services, while emphasizing continuous learning, mentoring, system improvement, and reduction of technical debt.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not count.
- At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 7+ years of coding experience with more than two of the following: Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala.
- 3+ years of experience with databases and database management systems.
- 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
- 4+ years of experience contributing to open-source frameworks.
- 3+ years of experience with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
- 4+ years of experience creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
- 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.
- 3+ years of experience using Git-based version-control systems such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
- 3+ years of experience troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
- 3+ years of experience with integration and building automation that connects to and operates infrastructure platforms.
- 1+ year of experience with networking and infrastructure concepts.
- 1+ year of experience writing applications that use feature flags, serverless computing, and service orchestration.
- Experience leveraging modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
- 1+ year of experience mentoring engineers and supporting professional development on technical teams.
- 1+ year of experience using observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
- Experience with interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity using capabilities beyond basic code completion.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
- Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers building distributed microservices and full-stack systems.
- Share knowledge of technology trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in technology communities, and mentor engineering colleagues.
- Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions.
- Use programming languages, databases, container orchestration services, and AWS tools and services to build solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and direction across Agile teams, setting standards for design, development, and operational excellence.
- Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and implement refactoring to reduce technical debt and enhance system performance.
- Influence long-term technology strategy by evaluating emerging tools and practices.
