Full Stack Engineer (Los Altos)
About The Position
Cheiron is seeking a Full Stack Engineer, Applied AI to contribute to the development of its core product and infrastructure. This role involves working across the entire stack, including backend systems, AI workflows, RAG and search pipelines, APIs, and the customer-facing product. The engineer will be responsible for structuring ambiguous problems and transforming them into polished products, with a focus on building systems that run in real customer environments. While deep AI research or life sciences expertise is not required, strong engineering fundamentals and practical experience with LLM systems are essential.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience shipping production software end to end.
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals and experience designing APIs, databases, and services.
- Hands-on production experience with AI-driven systems such as LLMs, agents, RAG, and vector databases.
- Full-stack capability, comfortable working with React and TypeScript frontends.
- The drive to set priorities and ship quickly, even with incomplete specifications.
- Active use of AI coding tools like Claude Code and Cursor.
Nice To Haves
- Hands-on experience designing and operating LangGraph, agent frameworks, or RAG systems in production.
- Experience with vector databases, semantic search, and knowledge graphs.
- Experience building enterprise SaaS, or products for the pharma, biotech, or healthcare industries.
- Familiarity with life sciences domain data (academic literature, clinical trials, regulatory documents, patents).
- Experience at a seed or early-stage startup.
Responsibilities
- Design and build backend services using Python, FastAPI, and Postgres.
- Develop applied AI workflows utilizing the OpenAI API, LangGraph, vector databases, and search systems.
- Create ingestion, indexing, and search pipelines for life sciences data, including academic papers, clinical, regulatory, safety, and patent sources.
- Build customer-facing features from the data model to the API and the React/TypeScript frontend.
- Develop systems that ground AI-generated outputs in source data with traceable, verifiable citations.
- Collaborate directly with founders, domain experts, and early customers, taking ownership of outcomes.
