About The Position
BigBear.ai is establishing a specialized, high-impact development team focused on creating cloud-native applications to directly support mission operations. This role offers high visibility and the opportunity to significantly influence outcomes in a focused environment. We are seeking a Full Stack Developer with advanced Python skills and strong frontend development capabilities, who is comfortable working in classified environments and possesses a disciplined engineering approach to building secure, maintainable systems under operational pressure.
Requirements
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience or equivalent demonstrated capability.
- Proficiency in Python backend development (Django, FastAPI, or similar; async/ASGI; modern Python).
- Experience in frontend development with React, Next.js, or equivalent for production systems.
- Experience with REST API design, including Backend-for-Frontend patterns and strong schema validation practices.
- Experience with PostgreSQL schema design, optimization, migrations, and data loading.
- AWS experience delivering and operating applications, including classified partitions/regions.
- Experience with Terraform (Infrastructure-as-Code).
- Experience with Keycloak and/or OIDC/SAML/CAC-PIV authentication integrations.
- Experience with secure development in STIG-hardened, FIPS-validated environments.
- Experience with GitLab CI/CD and Git-based workflows.
- Experience with DevSecOps scan remediation (SAST/DAST/SCA/SBOM/container scanning).
- Daily use of AI-assisted development tools.
Nice To Haves
- Experience building GenAI features into applications (RAG, LLM integration, embeddings/search).
- Experience with legacy system/data migration into modern cloud-native architectures.
- Experience with Kubernetes/EKS and Helm.
- Experience with hardened container supply chains and FIPS-validated image pipelines.
- Practical application of NIST 800-53 controls to software design.
- Experience with multi-classification / cross-partition deployment architectures.
- Experience supporting IC or DoD mission systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deliver end-to-end applications, encompassing database schema and data migrations, API layers, and user interfaces for mission users.
- Support an established platform while also developing pilot solutions and MVPs for new requirements.
- Extend Django-based API gateways and services using modern API patterns, including Backend-for-Frontend (BFF).
- Build and refine React/Next.js interfaces and dashboards for operational workflows.
- Design PostgreSQL schemas, tune queries, and develop migrations for data modernization.
- Integrate authentication and authorization using Keycloak (OIDC/SAML), including Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and secure session/token handling.
- Deploy and operate applications across multiple AWS partitions and classification levels.
- Contribute to infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD (GitLab) within a DevSecOps pipeline.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools as a standard part of daily workflow to enhance velocity and quality.
