About The Position

The Full Stack Developer will own the user-facing side of the Museum's websites, making thoughtful UX/UI decisions, building polished and accessible interfaces, and writing the server-side code and API integrations that make them work. This role involves connecting the websites to ticketing, CRM, and payment systems. The developer will partner closely with the Lead Web Developer on a small, high-trust team, shipping work to production quickly. The position requires genuine design judgment, attention to detail, and fluency in using AI development tools. Experience with Drupal hosted on Acquia is helpful, but the primary focus is on strong web development skills, with the platform to be taught.

Requirements

3+ years of professional web development experience with deep frontend expertise: semantic HTML, expert-level CSS/SASS, and strong modern JavaScript, including a framework such as React.
Comfortable writing server-side code (PHP or Node) and calling APIs.
Experience making design decisions: information architecture, interaction patterns, responsive layout, and accessibility.
Experience consuming REST/JSON APIs to connect websites to external systems (CRMs, payment or ticketing platforms, marketing systems).
Understanding of authentication and error handling in transactional workflows.
Ability to verify work thoroughly: cross-browser, responsive, accessible, and edge cases included.
Ability to report status accurately, including what has and hasn't been tested.
Effective use of LLM coding assistants in daily work for generation, review, and research, with the ability to validate AI-produced output.
Ability to take an open-ended technical question, structure an investigation, and deliver a clear recommendation with evidence on a committed timeline.
Accountability and follow-through; ability to raise blockers early.
Curiosity and a growth mindset; ability to close skill gaps, absorb feedback, and apply it.
Ability to work fluently in Git (branching, merging, resolving conflicts independently).
Ability to participate constructively in code review in both directions.
Ability to communicate clearly in agile ceremonies with technical and non-technical partners.

Nice To Haves

Hands-on experience with Drupal or WordPress (theming, module/plugin development, site building).
Experience writing automated unit or integration tests (PHPUnit, Jest/Vitest) and wiring them into CI.

Responsibilities

Design, build, test, and ship user-facing features for the Museum's web properties, including polished, accessible interfaces backed by server-side code and API calls, taking ownership from problem definition through production deployment.
Lead user experience and interface decisions for the web team: translate loosely defined needs into wireframes, prototypes, and polished, accessible (WCAG-conformant) interfaces, and build toward a reusable component/design system.
Build and maintain connections between the Museum's websites and business-critical systems (Salesforce, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Ticketure ticketing, payment/commerce services) by consuming REST/JSON APIs and writing server-side code for transactional workflows like ticket purchase and membership registration.
Verify work thoroughly before handoff across browsers, devices, and assistive technology, identifying edge cases.
Contribute automated tests to codebases where it adds value.
Use LLM-based development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) as an integral part of coding, code review, debugging, and technical research, verifying and validating AI-assisted output, and contributing to team standards for AI-assisted development.
Assess inherited and legacy codebases, plan and execute incremental refactors to reduce technical debt, improve structure and performance, and enhance maintainability.
Investigate ambiguous technical problems, conduct timeboxed investigations, and deliver clear, actionable recommendations (proofs of concept, architecture decision records) on a predictable timeline.
Contribute to delivery work on the Museum's CMS-based properties (Drupal on Acquia), including component development, security updates, and releases within Git, DDEV, and CI/CD workflows, in partnership with the Lead Web Developer.
Perform other work-related duties as required by Manager.
