About The Position

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Full Stack Developer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs. This is a full-time, 100% U.S.-based remote W-2 position. Candidates residing in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, or Washington will not be considered. U.S. citizenship is required, and the candidate must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI). Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and be able to obtain a government-granted security clearance. The role focuses on planning and executing software and IT systems testing, including test plan and case development, manual and automated testing, verification, results analysis, issue resolution, and test metrics and reporting. It also includes occasional IT systems engineering activities and providing technical solutions for challenging project issues. Deep hands-on EDIFECS experience with X.12 EDI transactions is desired. The salary range is $85,389–$116,975. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field is required, along with 10 or more years of professional experience.

Proven track record working on complex software projects and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
Experience with both manual and automated testing.
Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Proficiency in writing and executing test cases, test scripts, and test plans.
Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment tools, such as GitHub Actions.
Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git and Apache Subversion (SVN).
Understanding of performance testing and tools, such as JMeter and Gatling.
Familiarity with programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, or JavaScript.
Experience with defect tracking and management tools, such as JIRA and Bugzilla.
Experience with Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) products.
Understanding of security testing practices and tools.
Knowledge of functional, regression, integration, system, usability, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

Nice To Haves

Deep hands-on EDIFECS experience with Electronic Data Interchange X.12 transaction standards and workflows, including medical claims transactions (837, 834, 835, 277, etc.), 270/271 and 278 transactions, and 999 transactions.
Experience with Edifecs.
Advanced testing or quality assurance certifications, such as ISTQB, CSTE, or CSQA.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test procedures to ensure information systems products and services meet organizational standards and end-user requirements.
Develop test plans, schedules, and approaches.
Write test cases and scripts and identify data for test scenarios.
Conduct walkthroughs of test cases and scripts with Test Managers, Requirement Leads, Project Managers, and Development Leads.
Perform and lead software and IT systems testing to ensure proper operation and freedom from defects.
Perform verification activities on work products using defined methods, procedures, criteria, and an appropriate verification environment.
Document and communicate test results.
Support analysis of test results and resolution of open issues.
Document and work to resolve complex problems, and report progress on problem resolution to management.
Devise improvements to current procedures and develop models of possible future configurations.
Create daily test metrics and reporting.
Occasionally perform other IT system engineering activities, including requirements, design, installation, operation, sustainment, and support.
Establish goals to meet assigned objectives and measure whether objectives have been met.
Provide direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance.
Develop technical solutions to difficult problems requiring analysis and evaluation of identifiable factors, independently determining approaches and selecting appropriate methods and techniques.
Contribute to completion of specific programs and projects.
Maintain frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts and represent the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
