About The Position

A Fuel Tank Driver/Mechanic I safely operates a school system fuel truck, while performing entry-level mechanical maintenance, basic servicing, and minor repairs on company fleet vehicles.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without an automatic restriction.
  • Hazardous Materials (HazMat) and Tanker endorsements (or ability to acquire them quickly).
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools, equipment servicing, and vehicle maintenance systems.
  • Ability to lift heavy hoses and equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) and OSHA safety rules.

Responsibilities

  • Drive school system fuel truck to deliver diesel to school campuses to refuel buses.
  • Operate pumps, and monitor meters to safely transfer fuel to school system buses.
  • Complete thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and tank inspections.
  • Keep exact records of driving hours, product measurements, and delivery paperwork.
  • Conduct basic preventive maintenance on fleet trucks (e.g., fluid changes, filter replacements, and brake checks).
  • Assist senior mechanics with troubleshooting, part replacements, and general mechanical repairs.
  • Inspect and conduct minor repairs on facility or vehicle fuel tanks, valves, and hoses to prevent leaks.
