About The Position

Responsible for the continuous monitoring and operation of the boiler fuel system. This role involves performing Firewatch and Maintenance Helper duties as needed. The Fuel Handler must maintain safety and quality standards as outlined in the Job Hazard Analysis, Standard Operating Procedures, and other requirements directed by the Supervisor to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Boiler.

Requirements

• Must successfully complete required training for rolling stock and equipment used
• Successful completion of firewatch/fire suppression training
• Become familiar with facility layout
• Communicate with maintenance and prior firewatch
• Inspect work site for hot spots or possible sources of combustion
• Extinguish any fires that may occur
• Continue area inspection for at least 2 hours after completion of hot work
• Periodically inspect areas outside of hot work area for possible combustion sources or fires
• Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery
• Always use our 14 step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy
• Always use proper body mechanics (ex: don’t over reach, get help as needed to push loads out)
• Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection)
• Be aware of and communicate with your co-worker at all times (ex: forklift driver)
• Will be required to read and write during safety training

• Working at heights frequently is required

Responsibilities

• Maintain boiler fuel pile
• Feed fuel into the system
• Clean boiler cells by using proper cell procedures and combustion chamber
• Operate front-end loader/bobcat
• Monitor boiler equipment/gauges/valves
• Monitor boiler computer readout
• Comply with Federal, State, and Company rules, policies and procedures
• Perform radio communication when the Boiler is down
• Perform other duties and functions as assigned by supervisor for production and cleaning purposes
