About The Position

The FDSM B working in the Life Support (PEMO), Cryogenics, or Hypergolic Storage Facility (HSF) applies comprehensive technical knowledge to perform complicated tasks and resolve problems associated with systems and equipment required to transfer, transport and store hazardous propellants, cryogenic fluids and high pressure gases. Maintains, fabricates, repairs and operates most of these systems in a safe and efficient manner. Works under the general guidance of a higher graded technician, providing safe and efficient service in accordance with the demands on the system. Resolves problems and implement directives of greater complexity than solely manufacturers’ specifications, or other documents. Provides technical guidance to lower level technicians. This is a union position with the Teamsters and the hourly pay rate is $51.33.

Requirements

  • High school education, or equivalent, with two years experience in the same or closely related work.
  • A minimum of one year experience must be in the same type work.
  • If required, must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required by the Department of Defense.

  • Possession of a Class A CDL, or ability to train and obtain a Class A CDL.

Responsibilities

  • Implements the operation, maintenance and repair of multiple hazardous propellants, cryogenic and high pressure gas storage and distribution systems.
  • May include associated delivery and support systems, such as life support equipment, vacuum pumps, compression pumps, rolling stock, etc.
  • Conducts the movement and storage of these commodities using both direct and remote communications media.
  • Performs actual, and/or valet service for, life support operations, post-operations inspection and testing, and annual maintenance and repairs.
  • Life support operations involves the donning and doffing of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and Self Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensembles (SCAPE) during the handling of highly toxic, hazardous gases and propellants.
  • Performs inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair on various types of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) life support equipment, such as, Environmental Control Units (ECU), Emergency Breathing Apparatus (EBA), Emergency Life Support Apparatus (ELSA), fifteen minute Hooded Demand Valve (HDV) units, Ingress/Egress units, and SCBA units from various manufacturers.
  • Conducts the inspection, testing, repair and replacement of high pressure gas bottles, tanks, pipelines, valves, regulators and ancillary equipment for malfunctions, leaks and deterioration indicators.
  • Applies specialized experience to identify and mitigate potentially hazardous situations.
  • Conducts work from drawings, sketches and written directions on how to install low and high pressure distribution systems.
  • Conducts fabrication and installation of gage and pressure control panels.
  • Conducts acceptance testing of hydrostatic, pneumatic, thermal, and electrical equipment and systems.
  • Conducts disassembly, problem diagnosis and repair of hazardous propellant, cryogenic and high pressure system components, equipment and facilities required to maintain operational status.
  • Conducts fabrication and installation of gage and pressure control panels.
  • Conducts the transfer (loading and unloading to and from tanks, pipelines, etc.), storage and transportation of hazardous propellant commodities, cryogenic fluids and high pressure gases to customers/users.
  • Conducts blow-down and pressure cycle operations required to change trailer service from one high pressure gas medium to another.
  • Participates in extensive operations and safety training and strictly adheres to all safety procedures for working in hazardous areas with hazardous materials and equipment.
  • Operates tractor-trailer configurations, general purpose vehicles, and forklift equipment as required.
  • Assists in producing maintenance and operational records of the activities in each assigned functional area.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required by management.
