About The Position

The Quality Assurance & Food Safety Manager leads all food safety, quality, and sanitation programs to ensure compliance with FDA FSMA, and customer requirements. This role manages HACCP-based systems, process deviation investigations, SOPs, GMP training, supplier approval and monitoring, and product specifications. Working with Plant Management, Production, Procurement, and Sanitation, this position develops work instructions and quality programs, supports audits and regulatory inspections, oversees non-conforming product disposition, and directs the Food Safety, QA, and Sanitation teams, including scheduling and performance within budget.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Biology, Microbiology, Food Science, Nutrition, or related field, required. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience. Must have a minimum of 3 years in a management position.
  • QA experience within Food Manufacturing Environment both with raw and ready to eat finished product. Knowledge of FDA Regulations.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control principles and analysis techniques to maximize the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills to consider and identify the strengths and weakness of alternative solutions and chose the most appropriate course of action.
  • Bi-lingual is a plus.
  • Must have or complete HACCP certification program within 3 months of hire.
  • Must have or complete PCQI training within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Manages HACCP based Food Safety and Quality systems to ensure compliance with FDA FSMA and DOD regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for conducting investigations into process related deviations, management of the QA change control process, SOP preparation/revisions, and GMP training programs.
  • Develop detailed work instructions to ensure consistency in product formulation and make certain that employee safety and food quality practices are incorporated in all production activities.
  • Review, update, and create quality programs and policies in coordination with the Plant Manager.
  • Review relevant GMP documents for compliance to company SOPs, quality systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage supply chain controls through supplier approval and supplier monitoring programs.
  • Work with Procurement and R&D to develop and approve new raw material sources.
  • Assists the Production Managers in onboarding, training, and developing Team Members.
  • Supports regulatory/customer/3rd-party inspectors to ensure the facility, equipment and operations meet or exceed all regulatory food safety and quality requirements.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the Quality Assurance team members who ensure programs are working, procedures are followed, monitor product quality, and enforce Food Safety Practices.
  • Lead the addressing of all regulatory official requests including leading plant inspections.
  • Identify non-conforming products and lead decision making process for disposition of those products based on the risk to food safety and quality.
  • As needed by R&D, conduct shelf-life studies on finished goods.
  • Create and revise product specifications including ingredient statement and nutrition facts for new and reformulated products.
  • Other tasks as required by supervisor.
  • Support Sanitation Manager developing SSOP and strategies to maintain the bakery clean and safe at all times.
  • Manage Food Safety/Quality Assurance and Sanitation teams schedules to meet all expectation and weekly financial budget.
