Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of material handling and inventory experience.
  • Familiarity with material handling and inventory control.
  • Basic computer literacy, including data entry, basic knowledge of ERP systems, and ability to use barcode scanners.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to use proper lifting techniques and material movement equipment effectively.
  • Ability to review material to ensure it meets quality standards.
  • Identifying issues and communicating to leader.
  • Following safety protocols and maintaining hazard awareness.
  • Collaborating effectively with all employees.
  • Ability to be flexible in role, adjusting to new processes, technologies, or production requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams in executing receiving, staging, and delivery of materials within the facility to support production schedules and customer orders.
  • Ensure Material Specialists are following instruction and established procedures.
  • Operate forklift, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and ensure equipment is in good working order.
  • Load and unload material from trucks and containers.
  • Lead cycle counts, physical inventories, and reconciling of discrepancies.
  • Enter inventory transactions accurately into ERP/MRP systems or scanning devices.
  • Run and analyze inventory and KPI reports using ERP/MRP systems, identifying trends and reporting to supervisor or manager improvement opportunities.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for the materials team.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and delivery standards across the team.
  • Report inventory discrepancies to supervisors.
  • Inspect incoming materials for damage or discrepancies and report issues.
  • Lead team in accurate inventory and material movement documentation.
  • Solve issues through leading in root cause analysis for material discrepancies.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and proper lifting technique.
  • Maintain clean, organized and safe work areas where material is stored and moved out on the production floor.
  • Perform safety walks of production area and equipment checks (e.g., ensuring forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment are operational, and preventative maintenance are complete per the standard).
  • Maintain awareness and report to leaders potential safety hazards.
  • Coordinate with related teams (e.g., engineering, quality control, logistics) to address production challenges and optimize operations.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to report issues and provide updates.
  • Train new team members on material processes, techniques, tools, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to influence and motivate team members effectively without formal authority.
  • Provide informal guidance or mentoring to less experienced team members, including demonstrating proper processes and techniques.
  • Provide input on process improvements, cost-saving opportunities, and resource allocation to management.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Store tools and equipment properly.
  • Work overtime as needed to meet production goals.
  • Crosstrain in other areas and adjust to new processes or technologies.
