Frontend Engineer

CoinflowChicago, IL
$150,000 - $180,000Onsite

About The Position

Coinflow is seeking a dedicated Front End Engineer to join their team. This role is crucial for building and owning the company's design system from the ground up, using tools like shadcn/ui and Tailwind CSS. The engineer will be responsible for defining interaction models, shipping React code, and working directly with the CTO and founding engineers. The position involves designing and shipping full features end-to-end, from wireframing to production-ready UI, and redesigning existing surfaces like merchant onboarding and dashboards to improve polish and user experience. A key aspect of the role is setting the visual direction for a fintech product, ensuring it conveys trustworthiness, speed, and precision. The engineer will also make architectural decisions regarding component composition, theming, and reusability, and collaborate closely with backend engineers to accurately represent complex financial systems.

Requirements

  • Strong command of shadcn/ui, Radix primitives, Tailwind CSS, and React/TypeScript.
  • A portfolio or GitHub history showing products you designed and built yourself, start to finish.
  • Real product design judgment: typography, spacing, color systems, information hierarchy, and the ability to simplify complex, data-heavy interfaces.
  • Comfort owning ambiguity — you'll often be the one deciding what the right interaction pattern is, not implementing someone else's spec.
  • Experience building or significantly extending a design system in a real production codebase, including versioning, theming, and documentation practices that scale past one person using it.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fintech, crypto, or other data-dense, trust-sensitive product categories.
  • Familiarity with Next.js, React Native, or motion/animation libraries (Framer Motion, GSAP).

Responsibilities

  • Build and own our design system on top of shadcn/ui and Tailwind — components, tokens, patterns, and documentation.
  • Design and ship full features end-to-end: wireframe or go straight to high-fidelity, build the actual production component, wire it to real data, and iterate based on how it feels in practice.
  • Redesign and modernize existing surfaces — merchant onboarding, dashboards, checkout flows — that were built for speed, not polish.
  • Set the visual direction for a fintech product that needs to feel trustworthy, fast, and precise.
  • Make architecture decisions about component composition, theming, and reusability.
  • Collaborate closely with backend engineers to make sure the front end accurately represents genuinely complex systems (multi-chain settlement, card networks, fraud/risk states) without dumbing them down.

Benefits

  • Equity grant
  • Health and wellness benefits
  • 401(k) savings plan
  • Flexible time off
