About The Position

The primary role of a Host/Hostess is to create a warm and welcoming first impression for members, guests, and golfers of Sycamore Golf Club while maintaining the Club’s standard of quality and hospitality. A Host/Hostess is responsible for greeting and seating guests, and managing the wait list, and keeping the flow of the dining room organized so that servers can provide prompt service.

Requirements

  • Prior hospitality or customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, courteously, and honestly.
  • Friendly, professional appearance and manner.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexible, and ability to establish priorities.
  • Ability to stay calm and courteous during busy periods.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on the golf season and event schedule.
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with coworkers, members, and guests.
  • Stamina—Able to push, pull, lift or carry objects up to thirty pounds, including high chairs, bus tubs, and supplies. Frequently walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to read fine print in written documents and use visual discrimination in reading computer screens, including color discrimination.
  • Distinguish normal sounds with background noise, as in answering telephones in a busy dining room.
  • Able to speak clearly and make self-understood while also understanding others using the English language.
  • Must be able to track call aheads, wait times, and table availability at once over long periods of time with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to continue work started by another individual.
  • Ability to operate POS system, telephone, and credit card terminal.
  • Ability to calculate figures, make change, and apply concepts of basic math.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, menus, and Club policies.

Responsibilities

  • Greet members and guests promptly and warmly as they arrive and thank them as they leave.
  • Answer the telephone in a courteous and professional manner, take reservations, and answer questions about hours, menus, and events.
  • Manage call aheads and the wait list, and give guests accurate wait time estimates.
  • Seat guests and distribute seating evenly among server sections.
  • Provide menus and inform guests of daily specials and upcoming Club events.
  • Communicate with servers, bartenders, and the kitchen about large parties, and special requests.
  • Keep the entrance, host stand, and menus clean, organized, and stocked.
  • Assist with clearing and resetting tables, refilling beverages, and running food when needed.
  • Handle take-out orders and payments at the host stand when assigned.
  • Assist with guest check-in and setup for tournaments, outings, weddings, and other private events.
  • Complete the opening or closing checklist depending on the shift worked.
  • Report any guest complaints, incidents, or employee issues to management.
