About The Position

The Redfern House Manager reports to the Artistic Director and is required by state law for all events that are open to the public in a performance venue. This role hires, trains, schedules, and supervises all Front-of-House employees, including Assistant House Managers, Student Ushers, and Volunteer Ushers. The Front of House Manager ensures the safety of all audience members and provides an excellent experience at events in the Redfern Arts Center.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience in customer service or working with the public.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • The ability to work in a dynamic and changeable environment.
  • The ability to work a variable and flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • The ability to spend significant portions of time on feet and manage going up and down stairs quickly.
  • Supervisory experience in an academic setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Crowd Manager Certification – will be provided once hired.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and managing Redfern Front of House staff.
  • Staffs and organizes usher needs for all performances.
  • Trains volunteer ushers as needed for rental events.
  • Hires, trains, schedules and/or supervises Assistant House Managers and Backup House Managers.
  • Coordinates with Redfern Artistic Director to determine needs for each performance.
  • Coordinates performance timelines with stage management, including any pre- or post- show talkbacks, curtain speeches, and intermission.
  • Coordinates with Box Office Manager to plan needs for staffing and resolve ticketing problems as well as any other patron issues.
  • Responsible for ensuring excellent customer service from front-of-house staff and the smooth operation of the house during performances.
  • Manages printed program distribution and secures programs and other patron materials.
  • Responsible for the safety of the audience before, during, and after a performance.
  • Must know and understand how to operate during an emergency and train staff to do the same.
  • Maintains the appearance of the lobby and all public areas; communicates with Redfern Staff as necessary to ensure a clean environment.
  • Completes and distributes house report for each performance as well as any other administrative tasks as directed by theatre management.
