About The Position

The position of Front-Line Supervisor is an entry-level management position which assists the Assistant Director in managing front-line day-to-day operations of New Hope Leslieville Hotel Program. Requirements

  • Minimum 2 year Diploma in Human Services.
  • Certificate in First Aid/CPR, Crisis Intervention and Conflict Resolution.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Successful VSC required.
  • Two to three years minimum of significant work-related experience including residential and case management experience in the homeless serving sector.
  • Previous supervisory experience an asset.
  • Experience with extremely marginalized homeless people with mental health problems, addictions, concurrent disorders and familiarity to a wide variety of resources to meet client needs.
  • High level of comfort working within a diverse and multicultural environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to undergo and complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and show proof completion of the vulnerable sector screening.
  • Demonstrated effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible self-starter with the ability to multitask.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to take initiative to leverage approaches for effectiveness and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Shelter.
  • Ensure and support clients receive proper client care, direct consultation, referral, and supportive case management to clients.
  • Ensure the Triage process is completed for new admissions to the shelter.
  • Participate in Case Management and Client Meetings.
  • Review Incident Reports and Client Files.
  • Assist with monitoring the discharge criteria and appeal process.
  • To oversee the monthly Resident meetings.
  • Review and audit documentation on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate with community service agencies to coordinate discharges to the shelter.
  • Participate in the development, planning and coordination of all programming activities and special events.
  • To assist with community and city complaints.
  • Provide back-up support and make decisions in the absence of the Assistant Director or Property Manager.
  • Supervise Frontline Workers in accordance with established policies and procedures including Collective Agreement, Employment Standards and payroll procedures.
  • Schedule, conduct and document supervision.
  • Complete monthly schedules.
  • Conduct Performance Reviews and Evaluations.
  • Chair team meetings, conduct case conference and other meetings.
  • Support team in providing system in implementation of enhanced case management model utilizing Housing First, The Outcomes Star and Critical Time Intervention.
  • Provide support and direction for staff in assessment, developing individual support plans, consultation, referral and supportive counseling to individuals.
  • Ensure that individualized support plans/service agreements are developed and provided for clients to promote personal development, responsibility and community relationships through a recovery focused and participant-directed approach to treatment.
  • Ensure program and agency documentation is maintained as per policies.
  • Participate in after hours and on call support.
  • Work with Assistant Director with onboarding process.
  • To support the Director and Assistant Director with the administration of the Shelter.
  • Work with the Director and Assistant Director in ensuring the Shelter is in compliance and meeting the standards for the Quality Assurance and Accreditation.
  • Attend Committee and Agency meetings as directed.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Shelter Policies and Procedures and to chair the New Hope Leslieville Committee.
  • Conduct tours of building for groups or individuals as requested.
  • On call duties.
  • Responsible for preparing Vouchers for Client Assistance.
  • Prepare and submit hours of work for payroll submission.
  • To support the Assistant Director to ensure that all Health and Safety requirements specific to the Shelter are within compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • To perform workplace inspections.
  • To conduct information sessions (safety talks, staff meetings).
  • To assist with incident investigations.
  • To assist with employee health and safety training.
  • To assist, make recommendations and/or correct substandard acts or conditions.
  • To assist in commending employee health and safety performance.
  • To perform employee safety observations.
  • To ensure compliance with specific Shelter requirements within sections 25 & 26 of the OHSA.
  • Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army and Toronto Housing and Homeless Supports.
  • Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Engage in formal supervision and performance evaluations.
  • Read and follow the policy and procedures manual, the Employee Handbook and the Toronto Shelter Standards, and understand that the Shelter Manager’s position will be required to adhere to all these guidelines in dealing with clients, staff and the public.
  • Make suggestions to the Management team that will improve efficiency, working conditions and/or procedures.
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner.
  • Participate in authorized seminars and training sessions as requested.
