About The Position

As a Front Driver, you will ensure the safe and efficient collection of waste materials from residential and commercial areas. This position requires a commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to work independently while adhering to established routes and schedules. The Front Driver will operate waste collection vehicles, ensure proper waste disposal, and contribute to a clean and sustainable environment.

Requirements

  • Valid Class DZ or AZ driver's license, with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a waste collection driver or a similar role.
  • Knowledge of waste management regulations and practices in Ontario.
  • Ability to operate hydraulic arms or forks for waste container collection.
  • Strong attention to safety and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy waste containers.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed.
  • Alcohol testing.
  • Commitment to safety, punctuality, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Operate waste collection vehicles (typically front-loading trucks) safely and responsibly, following all traffic laws and safety guidelines.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in good working condition, reporting any issues to the supervisor.
  • Drive designated routes to collect waste materials from residential and commercial areas.
  • Operate hydraulic arms or forks to pick up and empty waste containers (bins) into the collection vehicle.
  • Ensure proper containment and securement of waste materials during transportation.
  • Comply with all municipal, provincial, and federal waste collection and transportation regulations.
  • Follow environmental waste disposal and recycling guidelines, contributing to sustainable waste management practices.
  • Interact professionally with customers and address any concerns or questions about waste collection services.
  • Maintain a positive and customer-focused attitude while representing the waste management company.
  • Follow assigned routes and schedules, optimizing collection efficiency while minimizing delays.
  • Report route deviations, delays, or any unusual incidents promptly to the dispatcher or supervisor.
  • Prioritize safety at all times, including using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report any safety hazards or incidents to the supervisor and participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks on collection vehicles, such as checking fluid levels and cleaning the vehicle.
  • Keep accurate records of daily activities, including waste collection data and vehicle maintenance.
