About The Position

The role involves greeting and assisting customers, processing transactions accurately and efficiently, handling various payment types and checkout procedures, following company policies, and helping maintain a safe and welcoming store environment. The clerk also supports customers with questions, reports pricing discrepancies and safety issues, inspects equipment, and assists minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.

Requirements

Customer service experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.

Prior experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk.

Responsibilities

Greet, engage, and assist customers.
Process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
Understand the Point of Sale (POS) system and handle cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, rain checks, loyalty offers, coupons, and checkout procedures according to company policy.
Follow company limits on cash shortages and overages and work honestly and effectively to control loss.
Follow guidelines on restricted-sale items such as alcohol, tobacco, and DVDs.
Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
Follow established policies and procedures for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons, where applicable.
Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines.
Comply with safety procedures; identify unsafe conditions, accidents, or issues and notify store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Answer customer questions about products in the department and throughout the store, helping customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
Adhere to local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
Act honestly and with integrity regarding customer and business information.
Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
