About The Position

The individuals who perform this job provide extraordinary shopping experiences to our guests and exceptional service at the time of checkout. This role involves operating the cash register, assisting guests, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. The position requires a friendly and helpful demeanor, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Must be over the age of 21.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos.
  • Ability to communicate with and understand coworkers and guests.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in both whole numbers and in fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate discounts and percentages.

  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic who completes job assignments in a timely fashion and then looks for the next task.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit.
  • In some cases, a valid Food Handlers Permit is required.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools.
  • Must be able to push and/or pull 50-100 pounds or more occasionally.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Physical attendance based on a schedule made by management which may vary week to week based on the needs of the business.
  • Experience in retail is preferred but not required.
  • Must know how to handle money and stay professional.
  • Must be deliberate with ringing customers up but able to work in fast paced environment.
  • Fridays and Saturdays are required workdays.
  • Any day between November 15th and January 1st is required; absolutely no time off in that period is given.

Responsibilities

  • Know and actively demonstrate daily our Company Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Maintain uniform standard as detailed in the Employee Manual for all worked hours.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, using the Guest Services script.
  • Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed to access UPC codes or prices.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add-on items, including the charity of the month.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so that the accurate amounts are charged to the guest.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  • Kindly ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction.
  • Check acceptable identification, use 36 sign-in, to ensure you make the legal sale.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due.
  • Accurately count change back to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise, using bags and bottle protectors judiciously.
  • Assist with carry-outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance.
  • Keep work area clean and neat and do not overstock counter with merchandise.
  • Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, making sure all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to manage stress in a fast-paced environment.
  • Stand for most of shift, bend and walk occasionally. Use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools. Push and/or pull 50-100 pounds or more occasionally.
  • Communicate with and understand team members and guests.
  • See product and payment methods.
  • Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  • Other projects and tasks assigned by management.
  • Attendance and timeliness are required.
