About The Position

The individuals who perform this job provide extraordinary shopping experiences to our guests and exceptional service at the time of checkout. This role involves operating a cash register or electronic scanner, ensuring proper pricing, and suggestively selling items to guests at the register. The associate will also monitor merchandise, redeem coupons, weigh produce, check identification for legal sales, receive payments, issue receipts, and accurately count change back to the guest. Additionally, the role includes bagging or boxing merchandise, assisting with carry-outs, computing and recording transaction totals, managing till balance through cash drops, maintaining a clean work area, counting down the drawer at the end of the shift, answering guest questions, resolving complaints, and avoiding personal cell phone use on the sales floor. The associate will also stock shelves, check price tags, monitor checkout station supplies, prepare areas for inventory, and carry out management directives with care and attention to detail. Teamwork, cooperation, time management, and the ability to manage stress in a fast-paced environment are essential. The job requires standing for most of the shift, occasional bending and walking, and the use of arms, hands, and fingers for various tasks. Lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally is required, as is pushing and/or pulling 50-100 pounds or more occasionally. Communication and understanding of team members and guests, as well as clear vision for product and payment methods, are necessary. The associate must work in accordance with all safety regulations. Other projects and tasks assigned by management, including cleaning restrooms, are also part of the role. Attendance and timeliness are required.

Requirements

  • State law says you must be over the age of 21 to work at Spec's.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in both whole numbers and in fractions and decimals.

  • Must be available to work any shift on Friday or Saturday and must be available 80% or more of all shifts each week.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit.
  • In some cases, a valid Food Handlers Permit is required.
  • Requires schedule flexibility, accountability, punctuality, and confidence with money handling.
  • Must have availability between 9am and 9:30pm throughout the week and weekend.

Nice To Haves

  • Cashiering experience is preferred, but the company is willing to train.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • A high school diploma or a general education degree (GED) is preferred, but experience can substitute.

Responsibilities

  • Know and actively demonstrate, daily, our Company Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Maintain uniform standard, as detailed in the Employee Manual, for all worked hours.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, use our Guest Services script based on the division in which they serve.
  • Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed to access UPC codes or prices.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add-on items, including the charity of the month.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so that the accurate amounts are charged to the guest.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  • Kindly ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction. Never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
  • If necessary, check acceptable identification, use 36 sign-in, to ensure you make the legal sale. Use best practices and always be professional when checking IDs.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due.
  • Accurately count change back to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise. Is business-minded when using bags (double bag only when asked by the guestfor multiple bottle orders, use boxes) and bottle protectors (no, not every bottle needs one).
  • Assist with carry-outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached in order to maintain proper till balance.
  • Keep work area clean and neat and do not overstock counter with merchandise.
  • Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • May resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, making sure all needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Possess time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to manage stress in a fast-paced environment.
