About The Position

The Front Desk Clerk is responsible for greeting and assisting guests in a cordial, prompt, and professional manner, including checking them in and out of the hotel. This role involves managing reservations, accurately posting charges, and handling cash and credit card transactions. The position requires a thorough understanding of the hotel's front office systems, rates, discounts, and reservation procedures. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, self-initiative, and enjoy working as part of a team to provide excellent guest experiences. Flexibility in scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is necessary.

  • Ability to work in a standard office environment.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (6-8 hours a day).
  • Occasional standing and walking throughout the workday.
  • Frequent fine motor skills, use of hands and fingers for keyboarding/typing, utilizing a mouse or trackpad, writing, and operating office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, reach, or carry items.
  • Ability to lift and/or move 10–25 pounds as needed (e.g., files, office supplies).
  • Visual ability to read from a computer screen and printed materials including close visual focus for extended periods and color differentiation (for certain roles).
  • Ability to hear and participate in conversations and meetings, use phone and/or headset.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and communicate cordially with guests, promptly and professionally checking them in and out of the hotel.
  • Assist in pre-registration and blocking of reservations when necessary.
  • Promptly, accurately, and efficiently post all charges.
  • Maintain complete working knowledge of the Front Office computer or manual system, including all daily transactions.
  • Accurately manage cash handling, including receiving cash, checks, and credit card information from guests and making change correctly.
  • Review any reservations with special requests and work to block rooms accordingly.
  • Have knowledge of hotel rates, discounts and how to handle each.
  • Take same day reservations, aiming for approximately 2 minutes per reservation.
  • Follow cancellation and relocation procedures when necessary.
