This role involves maintaining, repairing, and controlling the configuration of hydraulically-powered friction stir welding and friction pull plug welding machines. The engineer will develop an in-depth understanding of the equipment, determine the root cause of failures, perform repairs, and identify intermediate solutions. Documentation of problems, investigations, corrective actions, and repair results is crucial, along with communication to colleagues, company, and customer personnel. Responsibilities also include developing and managing spare parts lists and obtaining replacement parts. Additionally, the engineer will train other personnel on machine operation and may plan and execute projects using these machines.

Requirements

Equivalent of a Masters in engineering from an ABET accredited institution, or a BS with at least 5 years of experience.
Methodical planning and execution of maintenance and trouble-shooting operations.
Experience with control systems, hydraulics and electromechanical systems.
Prior experience operating and maintaining MTS Systems Corporation/PaR/I-STIR friction stir welding equipment or MTS Systems Corporation multi-axis servohydraulic control systems.
Prior experience with friction stir welding process and/or manufacturing development.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

Maintaining, repairing and controlling the configuration of hydraulically-powered friction stir welding and friction pull plug welding machines.
Developing an in-depth understanding of how the equipment works.
Determining the root cause of failures.
Accomplishing required repairs.
Identifying intermediate solutions when permanent repairs can't be immediately accomplished.
Documenting problems, the related investigative techniques and corrective actions, and the results of the repair activities.
Communicating documentation to co-workers, company and customer personnel.
Developing lists of spare parts to be kept on hand and arranging for the parts to be obtained.
Obtaining replacement spare parts when the parts on hand are used.
Training other personnel to run these machines.
Planning and executing projects executed on these machines.
