About The Position

Waltham Public Schools, a member of the Dual County League, has an immediate opening for a Freshmen Boys Soccer Coach. This role requires a candidate with experience coaching at the high school level in this sport, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively to ensure the success of student-athletes. The coach must uphold sound educational principles and ensure athletics are a valuable part of the overall school experience.

  • Establish avenues of communication with other adults to identify potential resources for the enhancement of WHS athletes and athletics.
  • Develop an approach to coaching which encourages outreach to the caregivers of the athletes and invested stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Model behaviors outlined in the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics, especially sportsmanship.
  • Demonstrate full control of the team in all coaching and athletic discipline matters.
  • Supervise athletes during practice sessions and all contests (home or away), including weight room, locker room, shower areas, and buses before and after practices/contests.
  • Implement WHS athletic department policies and team rules.
  • Be responsible for information contained in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Handbook and the WHS Student Handbook.
  • Attend all relevant Athletic Department and WHS meetings.
  • Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations affecting the sport.
  • Be responsible for team evaluation and selection.
  • Develop and organize effective practice plans.
  • Provide effective feedback for competitive growth and development.
  • Ensure facilities and equipment are safe and that safety procedures are taught and followed.
  • Implement game plans and game management, including score reporting and returning officials' vouchers.
  • Support the varsity coaching staff when appropriate.
  • Foster partnerships with athletic groups in the community to create continuity in programming.
  • Offer clinics and camps.
  • Establish communication with other adults to identify potential resources for enhancing WHS athletes and athletics.
  • Develop a coaching approach that encourages outreach to caregivers of athletes and invested stakeholders.
  • Work with WHS Athletic staff for distribution and collection of athletic equipment and uniforms.
  • Collaborate with all other Waltham High School coaches, under the direction of the Athletic Director, including coordinating schedules.
  • Perform other duties/responsibilities assigned by the Director of Athletics.
