About The Position

The Freshman Boys Basketball Coach at Northern High School is responsible for helping each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. This role involves developing players' basketball-specific skills, fostering good sportsmanship, and maintaining open communication with students, parents, other coaches, and the Athletic Director. The coach will create an environment where athletes can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image, while also supporting student academic expectations and achievements. This position requires adherence to Forest Hills Public Schools policies and procedures, promotion of the student-athlete code of conduct, and connecting athletic experiences with life experiences. The coach will also foster teamwork and collaboration among coaches and players, model good sportsmanship, and maintain a safe and healthy environment for student athletes. A flexible time commitment and consistent, reliable attendance are necessary. The position is seasonal.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills with parents and students required

  • The employee will remain free of any alcohol or drugs throughout his/her employment with the district as outlined in Board Policy #4210.

Nice To Haves

  • Basketball and/or coaching experience preferred
  • First aid and CPR knowledge preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and communicate clear and specific goals for the team and individual players

  • Demonstrate understanding of leadership best practices specific to the sport and age group
  • Support student academic expectations, responsibilities, and achievements
  • Develop the knowledge and understanding of Forest Hills Public Schools policies and procedures as it applies to athletics
  • Promote and enforce the student-athlete code of conduct
  • Connect athletic experiences with life experiences
  • Provide an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration among coaches and players
  • Model good sportsmanship always
  • Create and maintain a safe and healthy environment for student athletes
