About The Position

This position is for a Head Freshmen Boys Basketball Coach at Marion High School. The coach will be responsible for developing and promoting the basketball program for freshmen boys. The season runs from November to March, with an approximate number of students ranging from 8 to 25. The role reports to the Activities Director and High School Principal.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Coaching Endorsement or Coaching Authorization as mandated by the Iowa Department of Education, Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, Iowa High School Athletic Association, and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in organizing, conducting, and evaluating daily practices.
  • Maintain inventory and conduct periodic safety checks of equipment, supplies, and facilities.
  • Assist in supervising locker rooms and facilities until all students leave.
  • Assure necessary medical attention for participants.
  • Attend all Varsity games, matches, and/or meets when not scouting.
  • Attend all required Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and/or Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) meetings and submit all required paperwork.
  • Scout when directed by the Head Varsity Coach.
  • Assist the Booster Club with activity-specific needs.
  • Attend all meetings called by the Head Coach.
  • Check academic progress and eligibility of participants according to school and league rules.
  • Establish and enforce all regulations of the school district and athletic associations, including informing participants of policies.
  • Promote and remain loyal to the philosophies of the Head Coach.
  • Provide feedback and communicate with the Head Coach and/or Activities Director about individual and team issues.
  • Conduct self in a sportsmanlike manner, modeling and promoting high ideals of sportsmanship.
  • Model the highest level of integrity and ethical behavior.
  • Know the rules of the sport.
  • Attend clinics and read literature to stay abreast of changes in the activity.
  • Supply the Activities Director with necessary forms, team information, summaries, statistics, and school records.
  • Communicate with administration, faculty, Activities Director, parents, students, and staff members.
  • Work hard, be positive, and be on time.
