About The Position

The French Voyageur Summer Camp Credit Teacher teaches French language classes and provides immersive cultural experiences to participants earning high school credit. Working alongside Village leadership, the teacher plans and delivers instruction, assesses student progress, and supports participants in developing their language skills. The role also involves participating in daily Village life, leading activities, and helping create a welcoming and supportive community where students can build confidence, explore new perspectives, and connect across cultures.

This is a seasonal, temporary, full-time residential position for Summer 2027 in Bemidji, Minnesota. The general schedule may be up to seven days per week, with residential work of 14–16 hours per day plus overnight supervision responsibilities. The teacher lives in a cabin with children as part of a counseling team and contributes to supervision and community activities. The minimum salary is $520 per week.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent.
• Experience teaching the target language and culture.
• Hands-on experience working with adolescents aged 14–18.
• Conversational and written proficiency in the target language.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to model them for younger children.
• Maturity and good judgment.
• Enjoy interacting with and managing children.
• Adaptability and flexibility in changing situations.
• Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships and boundaries.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and manage personal needs in a youth-centered program.
• Emotional resiliency and cognitive ability to carry out responsibilities in a busy, noisy, communal environment.
• At least 16 years of age; applicants who are not United States citizens must be at least 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

• Previous Concordia Language Villages or summer camp experience.
• Teaching licensure.
• Experience as a teacher in the target language.

Responsibilities

• Plan and teach French language classes and assess student progress.
• Maintain accurate grade records and complete mid-session progress reports and final evaluations.
• Communicate with the Credit Facilitator about the progress of credit participants in classes and elective courses.
• Live in a cabin with children as part of a counseling team and provide supervision.
• Lead games, Cabin Council, and other activities to build a cabin community.
• Supervise and interact with students during meals.
• Assist with other aspects of Village life, including cultural presentations and activity periods.
• Complete other tasks as assigned by the dean and leadership staff.
• Follow CLV policies and responsibilities for the assigned area, and attend orientation before the first session.
• Assist with Village setup, preparation for the next session, and maintenance throughout the session.
• Speak the target language with villagers and staff as much as possible.
• Model appropriate behavior and support the health and welfare of villagers.
• Remain one day after the final session for cleanup, inventory, and program evaluation.
