About The Position

This posting is intended to generate a pool of qualified applicants who wish to be considered for vacancies as they develop for the 2026-2027 school year. The role involves helping students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals. The teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating instruction based upon specific goals and objectives established by Hanover County Public Schools and Virginia Standards of Learning.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of current practices, techniques, and methods of teaching.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of educational testing and principles and methods of remedial education.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of effective means of supervision and instruction as applied to the work of Instructional Assistants.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the needs and requirements of working with students with disabilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and methods of educational research.
  • Ability to apply modern methods and principles of education to pupils functioning at the elementary and/or secondary school level.
  • Ability to maintain an interest in the positive improvement and development of children, adolescents, or adults of normal and/or impaired learning ability.
  • Ability to maintain proper discipline.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and French with a minimum proficiency level of Advanced-Mid on the ACTFL scale.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum French proficiency of advanced - mid level.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree from accredited institution.
  • Teacher License with an endorsement in French or be eligible for a teacher license with an endorsement in French.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates mastery of the French language content area both in writing and orally.
  • Prepares daily instruction and activities using the division’s curriculum to assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisors.
  • Utilize authentic resources from francophone cultures to engage students in real-life use of French.
  • Assesses students' learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
  • Develops summative tests of students' learning and uses results for further student instruction, grading, and placement.
  • Develops and maintains a favorable psychological and physical environment that is conducive to effective learning.
  • Maintains order and encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding pupil behavior management.
  • Selects and utilizes materials and resources appropriate to the students' instructional levels.
  • Incorporates authentic francophone cultural products, practices, and perspectives into lessons and activities.
  • Organizes learning activities to achieve specific concepts.
  • Attends and participates in district and school level in-service training programs, faculty and department meetings.
  • Establishes friendly and cooperative relationships between the home and the school.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with others.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Respects the home responsibility of parents for their children.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school division’s policies and practices.
