About The Position

St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s School is an independent school with an Episcopal foundation located in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. It is co-educational and has ages 2 through grade 8. The Upper Division seeks a dedicated, proactive, and experienced French teacher in grades 4-8. Successful candidates will minimally hold a B.A. in French or a closely related field and be both fluent in French and comfortable using technology in the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Guiding whole class, small group, and individualized instruction.
  • Deliver lesson plans in a way that catches the attention of the students and keeps them occupied and excited about learning.
  • Ensure strengths-based and culturally sensitive feedback and teaching strategies.
  • Comprehensive curriculum design and planning ensuring an integrated curriculum that aligns with the SHSH mission and grade-level learning goals.
  • Establishment of thoughtful, engaging units of study designed to address the different learning styles of students in the class.
  • Weave goals, competencies, and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to the student’s life.
  • Work with grade-level colleagues to ensure integration across subject areas.
  • Consistently and clearly communicate with colleagues, administrators, and parents regarding student progress and any student issues.
  • Ensure students are prepared to meet the challenges of their next grade.
  • Develop and provide regular assessment and evaluation of student progress and outcomes.
  • Provide written reports, data collection, and status reports.
  • Regularly monitor and assess student learning and growth to inform instruction using a variety of tools and means.
  • Attend and contribute to regular faculty meetings.
  • Provide information to school administrators as it relates to their departmental needs as requested.
  • Contribute to a safe, vibrant, and respectful culture throughout.
