About The Position

Versant Sports is hiring a Freelance Digital Writer/Editor to join its team of digital content creators and publishers. The role involves creating and distributing original sports editorial and video content across Versant Sports platforms, with priority on Golf Channel and other sports as assigned. The writer/editor will produce digital-first content for websites, apps, social media, and mobile-optimized platforms, packaging written and video material to maximize reach while maintaining editorial accuracy.

The position is project-based and limited-term, with an estimated duration of up to 12 months, unless amended or terminated as project deliverables are completed. The role is based in Stamford, Connecticut, and requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to respond to news cycles and breaking news.

Requirements

• BA or BS from a four-year accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
• At least 2–3 years of experience in digital editorial, content creation, and distribution at a sports or media company, publisher, or content agency.
• Strong writing, editing, and content-packaging skills, with the ability to adapt voice to audiences and platforms.
• Experience with CMS platforms, SEO basics, and analytics dashboards.
• Solid editorial judgment and engagement with multiple digital properties.
• Firm understanding of digital storytelling, audience development, and distribution best practices.
• Clear communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
• Attention to detail and ability to prioritize across multiple concurrent leagues and events.
• Familiarity with digital ecosystems and ability to learn and master multiple technical platforms.
• Strong copy-editing skills and ability to self-edit.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to contribute as an individual while working within a team and supporting brand growth.
• Strong familiarity with golf and golf-related news, and ability to write about other sports genres, including basketball, volleyball, and soccer.

Responsibilities

• Write and edit SEO-optimized sports articles, headlines, and captions to drive page views and discovery.
• Write and edit multiple articles quickly under deadline, including during live event coverage.
• Create, edit, and publish tournament- and news-related content as assigned.
• Use editorial judgment and performance metrics to improve content reach and engagement.
• Manage content presentation across Versant Sports sites, including Golf Channel and USA Sports homepages and sports brand-specific pages.
• Manage video publishing and livestream presentation on the Golf Channel main site and Sports App.
• Assist with ideation, creation, and execution of sales and sponsored content.
• Package Golf Channel written and video content for digital platforms to maximize reach and prioritize editorial accuracy.
• Plan coverage strategies around key properties and tentpole events, coordinating between linear broadcast and digital teams.
• Pitch content ideas in team brainstorms to build on-site and off-site traffic and audience.
• Support relationships with partner platforms.
• Manage multiple projects with parallel timelines.
