About The Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Advanced FPGA Engineer located in our Bloomington, MN location. This role is responsible for the definition, design, verification, and documentation of Advanced FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) developments in embedded systems. The engineer will determine architecture, system simulation, and detailed design approaches, define module interfaces, and oversee all aspects of device design and simulation. They will evaluate the process flow, including high-level design, synthesis, place and route, timing, and power utilization. Additionally, the role involves creating and verifying test and simulation plans, analyzing performance, and potentially reviewing vendor capabilities, foundry technologies, device libraries, and simulation tools. The engineer will also participate in improving FPGA organizational processes, support the generation of technical engineering products, and contribute to research and analysis of data to determine design feasibility. Component and equipment selection based on specifications and reliability, and potential leadership/direction to lower-level employees are also part of the responsibilities. The role requires independent determination of solutions, contribution to major programs and projects, and planning/execution of project tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics field.
  • 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree and 3 years of job-related experience.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Experience with Ethernet Frame structure & protocols.
  • Proficient use and understanding of FPGA engineering concepts, principles, and theories
  • Proficient in the principles and techniques of FPGA design
  • Proficient understanding of FPGA processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficient in System Verilog
  • Proficient in Vivado
  • Proficient in QuestaSim or ModelSim
  • Proficient working in Linux environment

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for definition, design, verification and documentation for Advance FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) developments in embedded systems.
  • Determines architecture, system simulation and detailed design approach
  • Defines module interfaces and all aspects of device design and simulation
  • Evaluates the process flow including but not limited to high level design, synthesis, place and route, timing and power utilization

  • Verifies test results and analyzes performance

  • Participates in the improvement of the FPGA organizational processes.
  • Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the FPGA development life cycle
  • Contributes to the research and analysis of data, such as customer design proposal specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
  • May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
  • Independently determines approach to solutions
  • Contributes to the completion of major programs and projects
  • Plans and executes project tasks for activities described above
