About The Position

This role involves performing diversified duties to prepare daily production and melting schedules, prepare charges for furnaces, and maintain related controls and records. The technician will also perform duties of a caster as needed and assigned. Responsibilities include weighing and preparing furnace charges according to charge sheets, specifications, and alloying formulas, making necessary calculations for partial charges, and exercising care to avoid incorrect alloying, intermingling, or contamination. The role requires maintaining records of materials, preparing and maintaining individual charge records, obtaining and preparing samples for chemical analysis, and maintaining an analysis log. Periodic physical inventories and inventory control records are also part of the duties. The technician must detect faulty operations, defective material, and report unusual conditions to the supervisor. Additionally, the role requires compliance with all safety requirements, policies, and procedures, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, participating in required training and evaluations, and wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The position involves performing all physical functions of the job, including standing, stooping, bending, sitting, walking, twisting, kneeling, turning, and lifting up to 35 lbs, meeting attendance standards, and working overtime as needed. Reporting work-related injuries or illnesses immediately is mandatory. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of trade experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diversified duties to prepare daily production and melting schedules.
  • Prepare charges for furnaces.
  • Maintain related controls and records.
  • Perform duties of caster, as needed, and assigned.
  • Weigh out and prepare furnace charges from charge sheets, specifications, and alloying formulas.
  • Make necessary calculations to determine proportional quantities for partial charges.
  • Exercise care in selecting and weighing charge component materials to avoid incorrect alloying, intermingling or contamination.
  • Use hand truck or fork lift to deliver charges to furnace areas.
  • Maintain records of material received, on hand and issued.
  • Prepare and maintain individual charge records.
  • Obtain and prepare virgin metal and heat samples for chemical analysis.
  • Maintain analysis log of all heats and virgin materials, specified alloying and other related data.
  • Take periodic physical inventories.
  • Maintain inventory control records of all virgin, alloying and scrap material on hand.
  • Make receipt and issuance entries, extend and total.
  • Prepare periodic use and level reports.
  • Notify supervision of apparent shortages or excesses.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report these and any unusual conditions to supervisor.
  • Comply with all applicable safety requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
  • Participate in required training, medical monitoring, safety, and health evaluations and programs.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in all designated areas of facility.
  • Perform all physical functions of position; standing, stooping, bending, sitting, walking, twisting, kneeling, turning and lifting of materials up to 35 lbs.
  • Meet established attendance standards.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Report any work-related injury or illness immediately to your direct supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
