About The Position

We are Legio, a company building software for safety and security operations teams, focusing on incident response, investigations, dispatch, and reporting for university and hospital campuses. Our mission is to modernize a domain currently reliant on outdated methods. As a small team within the well-funded venture studio Klass Ventures, we offer the stability of significant runway and the freedom to create lasting products. We are seeking our first Founding Engineer to play a pivotal role in building our platform.

Requirements

• Experience as a founding or early engineer at a startup that shipped real products.
• Experience starting something of your own, such as a company, a serious side project, or an open-source initiative.
• Experience as a key contributor in a larger company, shipping important work.
• Ability to write clean code and a pragmatic approach to shipping.
• Strong opinions about tools, trade-offs, and taste, with a willingness to discuss and adapt them.
• Strong architecture experience, including designing technical standards, creating blueprints, decision logs, and technical roadmaps.
• Proficiency in AI tooling, including agentic coding and running multiple agents simultaneously.
• AI Native work habits and experience building AI tools for personal use, side projects, or daily work.
• Ability to work independently without constant supervision or assigned tickets.
• A builder mentality seeking a hands-on, high-impact opportunity.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with TypeScript, Postgres, Anthropic, Gemini, and AWS (ECS, Amplify, CloudFront).
• Experience with AI-assisted development and a desire to use these skills full-time.

Responsibilities

• Shipping real features end-to-end, including backend, frontend, and infrastructure.
• Leading architecture and design decisions.
• Taking ownership of problems from conception to rollout, including architecture, tradeoffs, implementation, and rollout.
• Engaging with customers, end users, and stakeholders such as campus safety directors, investigators, and emergency managers to understand their challenges.
