About The Position

Aran is automating the design and engineering of data centers and industrial megaprojects. The Founding Engineer - Software will build software that connects parametric engineering engines into a coherent platform, translating domain engineers’ understanding of physical constraints into reliable, scalable software. The role spans computational engines, AI agents, infrastructure, and interfaces for engineers and customers, with a focus on software that produces engineering designs and deliverables intended for construction. The engineer will work directly with domain engineers and customers, continuously shipping production software. The position is full-time and remote in the United States or Canada, excluding Quebec. Compensation is US$200,000–US$300,000 or CA$285,000–CA$430,000 base, plus founding-team equity. Aran provides fully compensated health plans with 100% dependent coverage. The company hires across the experience spectrum and emphasizes demonstrated building ability over years on a résumé.

Requirements

Be an exceptional software engineer with experience building and shipping real products end-to-end.
Understand systems deeply, including data structures, algorithms, architecture, and building reliable complex software.
Be comfortable working across the stack, from backend systems and computational engines to user-facing products.
Be highly proficient with AI coding agents and capable of using them to move dramatically faster.
Have the curiosity to learn engineering fundamentals, physical constraints, and how the built world works.
Take full ownership of problems.

Nice To Haves

Experience with computational geometry, CAD/BIM, simulation, physics engines, developer tools, or complex technical software is particularly interesting.

Responsibilities

Build the core engineering platform connecting civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and architectural design.
Develop parametric models, computational geometry systems, dependency graphs, and automated engineering workflows.
Build AI agents that reason across engineering documents, drawings, calculations, specifications, and design constraints.
Create workflows that transform project requirements into coordinated 3D models, engineering calculations, and construction documentation.
Build robust interfaces and infrastructure that make complex engineering accessible, auditable, and repeatable.
Ship production software continuously while working directly with domain engineers and customers.
Own problems end-to-end and build without waiting for detailed specifications.
