Founding Applied AI Engineer

WilsonAISan Francisco, CA

About The Position

WilsonAI is building Cursor for lawyers, a platform designed to help legal teams review, negotiate, and manage contracts with unprecedented speed and accuracy. Backed by Nomad Ventures and Autopilot, the company raised a $1.7M pre-seed round at the end of 2024. Since then, WilsonAI has stabilized its product with real customers, outperformed competitors in pilots with high-revenue teams, and achieved multi-six-figure revenue through founder-led sales. The company is at the beginning of a significant opportunity to transform the trillion-dollar legal industry using AI and is assembling a small, elite team. This role is central to the product, working directly with the CTO on customer-facing features and deep technical systems. The engineer will design, build, and ship LLM-powered workflows for daily use by legal teams, focusing on debugging failure modes, improving accuracy, and ensuring reliable production performance. This is a hands-on, end-to-end ownership role, requiring fast decision-making with incomplete information and accountability for outcomes. In return, the role offers rare exposure to building a high-growth AI company and direct ownership of critical product areas.

Requirements

  • Experience building production LLM workflows or agent based systems
  • Deep intuition for how language models behave and how to steer them
  • Strong computer science fundamentals and clear, structured problem solving
  • Ability to reason about complex systems and anticipate failure modes
  • High attention to detail and a bias toward shipping things that actually work
  • High agency, fast learner, and comfortable owning problems without hand holding
  • Comfortable working hard and doing unglamorous work when needed

Nice To Haves

  • Startup builders, ex founders, or engineers who want responsibility and speed are especially welcome

Responsibilities

  • Build and improve LLM driven workflows for contract review, redlining, extraction, and legal Q&A
  • Design and implement agent orchestration and multi step reasoning pipelines
  • Diagnose and fix model failures, hallucinations, and edge cases
  • Work closely with customers and product to turn real legal problems into reliable AI systems
  • Own features end to end, from design through to production and iteration
