About The Position

The Foundation & Development Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the Foundation in support of the mission, strategic priorities, financial sustainability and long-term success of Meeker Memorial Hospital & Clinics. This position is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive philanthropy and community engagement program that includes annual giving, major gifts, grants, planned giving, sponsorships, special events, donor stewardship, endowments, hospital gift shop and other fundraising initiatives. The Foundation & Development Director will also lead the hospital's grant development and management program, including identifying funding opportunities, coordinating applications, managing awarded grants, monitoring compliance, coordinating reporting and maintaining strong relationships with grant makers. The position serves as a highly visible ambassador for the Foundation, hospital & clinics, and is expected to develop strong, authentic relationships with donors, prospective donors, community leaders, businesses, civic organizations, physicians, employees, patients, families and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, healthcare administration, public relations, marketing, communications or related field.
  • Proven experience in non-profit foundation management, including grant writing, donor relations and fundraising strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively with Boards, executives, physicians, volunteers, donors, employees and community organizations.
  • Experience with annual, special project, capital and deferred giving programs.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Strong project-management and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary staff resource to the Foundation Board. Coordinate the Foundation Board in establishing appropriate fundraising goals, strategies, policies and priorities.
  • With support from the Marketing & Foundation Coordinator, prepare Board agendas, reports, fundraising updates, financial information and other necessary materials.
  • Recruit, orient, engage and support Foundation Board members.
  • Provide accurate and timely information regarding Foundation operations and fundraising performance.
  • Support effective Board governance and ensure members understand their role.
  • Work with CEO and Foundation Board to develop a multi-year philanthropic development plan that integrates annual giving, major gifts, capital campaign, grants, planned giving, corporate giving, sponsorships, special events, donor stewardship and community engagement.
  • Establish measurable objectives for both current fundraising revenue and long-term philanthropic capacity.
  • Develop & implement a comprehensive, multi-year Foundation development strategy aligned with the hospital's strategic plan and community needs that builds both current revenue and long-term philanthropic capacity.
  • Develop annual fundraising plans with measurable goals for annual giving, major gifts, capital campaign, grants, planned giving, corporate giving, sponsorships, special events, donor stewardship and community engagement.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive donor and prospect pipeline, identifying opportunities to increase unrestricted, restricted, endowed, planned and major gift-philanthropy.
  • Monitor fundraising performance and provide regular reports to the CEO and Foundation Board and ensure fundraising activities are conducted professionally, ethically and in accordance with Foundation policies and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Oversee gift shop operations in collaboration with the Marketing & Foundation Coordinator and volunteers to ensure goals are met.
  • Maintain close working relationship with CEO to ensure Foundation activities support the overall mission and goals of MMHC.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Marketing & Communications and Leadership Team as appropriate.
  • Communicate with MMHC leadership regarding strategic priorities, capital needs, community needs, major initiative, fundraising and grant opportunities.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with MMHC Board regarding significant fundraising initiatives and campaign progress as directed by CEO and Foundation Board.
  • Work with MMHC leadership on fundable projects and identify grant opportunities that align with MMHC's mission and priorities.
  • Research prospective grants and develop relationships with funding organizations.
  • Coordinate development and submission of grant applications, letters of intent, proposals, budgets and supporting documentation for grant submissions.
  • Develop grant budgets in collaboration with Finance and appropriate program leaders.
  • Project manage grants ensuring grant commitments are maintained; follow through on any changes, extensions, modifications, recognitions of grant is properly communicated, monitor budgets, objectives and performance measures required.
  • Serve as highly visible ambassador for the Foundation and MMHC.
  • Communicate MMHC's mission, community impact, strategic priorities and philanthropic opportunities in a compelling and authentic manner.
  • Build strong relationships with donors, prospective donors, community leaders, businesses, civic organizations, physicians, employees, patients and families, volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the Foundation at community meetings, events, civic organization and other appropriate venues.
  • Work with Marketing & Communications Manager to develop effective publications, campaign materials, donor stories, presentations and communications.
  • Maintain the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality and ethical fundraising.
  • Comply with Foundation policies, MMHC policies, applicable laws and regulations and accept philanthropic standards.
  • Maintain accurate donor, prospective, gift, grant and campaign records.
  • Ensure donor restrictions and gift agreements are properly documented and honored.
  • Be respectful of actual or perceived conflicts of interest and disclose potential conflicts in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Coordinate with Finance to ensure appropriate accounting and reporting of gifts, pledges, grants and restricted funds.
  • Maintain appropriate financial controls over Foundation activities.
