Forward Deployed Engineering Lead

DoppelNew York, NY

About The Position

Doppel's Forward Deployed Engineering team sits at the intersection of engineering, product, and go-to-market. We work directly with the world's largest enterprises to deploy Doppel, build the integrations that connect us to their security stack, and turn what we learn in the field into product. As Doppel rapidly expands its product portfolio, what this team owns and where its boundaries sit is being figured out in real time — and you'll be the one figuring it out. This is the real draw of the role: there's no playbook, the mandate is deliberately unfinished, and you'll define it by choosing which problems the team takes on and making the case for what forward deployed engineering at Doppel becomes.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience building production applications (Python preferred), including 2+ years in a forward deployed, solutions engineering, or customer-facing engineering role.
  • Experience leading engineers — formally or informally — while still shipping yourself.
  • Deep experience with enterprise integrations: OAuth, SAML, SCIM, IDP sync, webhooks, SIEM/SOAR platforms, and REST APIs.
  • Proven ability to operate in ambiguity: you've thrived somewhere the org was reorganizing around rapid growth, and you treat an undefined charter as an opportunity rather than a blocker.
  • A track record of turning bespoke customer work into reusable product or platform capabilities.
  • Comfortable working directly with enterprise customers, including non-technical stakeholders, and negotiating priorities with sales and product.
  • Strong judgment about ownership: when your team should own a problem, when to incubate and hand off, and when to influence another team's roadmap instead.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, bridging technical and non-technical teams.
  • Product-minded, highly autonomous, and comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AI application development, LLM APIs, or workflow automation is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of forward deployed engineers — setting direction, unblocking projects, and staying hands-on with customers and code.
  • Own the enterprise integration portfolio: SIEM/SOAR connectors (Splunk, Sentinel, Cortex XSOAR, and more), ticketing and collaboration tools, custom webhooks, and email ecosystem integrations.
  • Own enterprise identity: SSO, SCIM provisioning, and IDP sync with providers like Okta, Entra, and HR systems — including troubleshooting OAuth and SAML issues in the field.
  • Serve as the senior technical presence in strategic enterprise deals: scope integrations pre-sale, de-risk deployments, and get customers live fast.
  • Turn one-off customer builds into product — define how forward-deployed prototypes graduate into core platform capabilities, and make each new integration cheaper to build than the last.
  • Expand the team's charter into high-leverage problems that blend sales, product, and engineering: AI-powered automations, GTM tooling, and internal workflows that compress onboarding and deployment timelines.
  • Continuously renegotiate the team's role as new products launch — deciding what the team builds, what it hands off, and what it declines, and coordinating multiple customer projects across engineering, product, sales, and customer success.
  • Set the standard for documentation, dashboards, and deployment best practices.

Benefits

  • Free lunch and dinner in the office
  • Flexible PTO
  • Quarterly team offsites
