Forward Deployed Engineering Lead (SF)

Doppel•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Doppel is building the future of social engineering defense with an AI-native platform that uses agentic AI to protect against phishing, impersonation, fraud, and other AI-powered threats. The Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team is responsible for the efficient onboarding of enterprise customers. This role involves working directly with major enterprise clients, collaborating with Go-To-Market and Product teams to understand onboarding requirements, define technical solutions, and build the systems for customer integration. The lead will guide the FDE team's technical direction while remaining hands-on with complex integrations and strategic deployments. A key aspect of the role is translating field learnings into reusable capabilities to streamline future deployments. The position also involves shaping the product by creating a feedback loop between customers, GTM, Product, and Engineering, and defining the technical scope of FDE work versus core product/platform development.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience building and shipping production software.
  • Technical depth for architecture decisions and direct codebase contribution.
  • Experience setting technical direction, mentoring engineers, and driving complex projects while remaining hands-on.
  • Experience working directly with complex enterprise customers.
  • Ability to uncover technical needs and translate ambiguous problems into scoped production systems.
  • Comfort working across APIs, webhooks, identity and authentication (OAuth, SAML, SCIM), and enterprise infrastructure.
  • Product instincts to recognize patterns and differentiate customer-specific needs from reusable capabilities.
  • High agency in ambiguous situations, ability to cut through blockers and get things done.
  • Ability to identify and engage necessary stakeholders across Sales, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering.
  • Strong technical judgment and communication skills, comfortable moving between customer calls, system design, debugging, and product discussions.
  • Excitement to use AI to change how technical customer work is done.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with security platforms or SIEM/SOAR ecosystems.
  • Experience building with LLMs, agents, or AI-powered workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead FDE technically, setting technical direction, mentoring engineers, and unblocking complex projects.
  • Own strategic deployments, guiding customers from technical discovery to production rollout.
  • Identify onboarding friction, scope solutions, and drive engineering work for customer integration.
  • Architect, build, and debug across APIs, webhooks, SIEM/SOAR platforms, identity systems, email infrastructure, and enterprise security stacks.
  • Identify patterns in customer deployments and develop reusable product and platform capabilities.
  • Build systems, automation, and internal tooling to improve deployment scalability.
  • Establish a feedback loop between customers, GTM, Product, and Engineering to influence product development.
  • Define FDE's technical boundaries, determining what FDE should build versus what should be integrated into core product or platform.
