About The Position

Lumafield is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to join their Applications Engineering team. This role involves working directly with customer engineering and manufacturing teams, deploying to customer sites for engagements lasting one to ten weeks or more. The FDE will execute the technical scope of work on-site, acting as the primary on-site representative for Lumafield. This position requires becoming an expert in the Lumafield platform, including hardware, Voyager software, and custom software, and applying this expertise hands-on at customer locations. Responsibilities include running scans, performing Voyager analysis, supporting ML model implementation, and conducting customer training and adoption. Engagements are defined by Statements of Work (SOWs) and managed with Project Managers, with support from the broader Applications Engineering team and Lumafield's product and engineering organizations. The FDE owns day-to-day execution at the customer site. Core requirements include excellent customer-facing communication and the ability to operate autonomously, as FDEs are often the sole Lumafield representative on the ground.

Requirements

B.S. in engineering
3+ years of professional experience in solution engineering, or in manufacturing, process, or industrial engineering in a production environment.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes, which may range from machining, casting, injection molding, additive manufacturing, stamping, or assembly
Have direct experience with continuous improvement and process control methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, or PFMEA, and how they intersect with inspection and quality work.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to lead technical conversations, run trainings, and represent Lumafield independently on a customer site for extended periods.
Comfortable with an extended-deployment travel pattern, including engagements of multiple weeks at customer locations, supported by Lumafield's travel-home policy.

Nice To Haves

Hands-on experience with industrial CT, CMM, or other dimensional metrology or NDT workflows.
Familiarity with GD&T, first-article inspection (FAI), or other inspection processes.
Manufacturing, Process, or Industrial Engineering experience in a production manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

Deploy to customer sites for engagements, executing the agreed scope of work per the SOW, and serve as Lumafield's primary on-site technical representative.
Operate Lumafield scanners on the customer floor, including planning and running scans across a wide range of parts, materials, and inspection objectives.
Perform analysis in Voyager, including defect detection, dimensional measurement, assembly verification, and other workflows aligned to the customer's use case.
Support ML model implementation at the customer site, including data collection, validation, and integration into the customer's production workflow, in partnership with Lumafield's ML and product teams.
Support customer training and adoption to build capability on the customer's team.
Partner with Project Managers to track scope, timeline, and deliverables, and surface risks early when on-site reality diverges from the plan.
Collaborate with other Application Engineers and Lumafield teams to resolve technical issues encountered on-site and bring back what you learn for continuous improvement.
Document scans, analyses, model deployments, and training sessions so that customers can build on the work after you leave.
