Forward Deployed AI Architect (GenAI, AWS)
About The Position
Provectus is a Premier AWS partner and an Anthropic Strategic Partner focused on applied AI, helping enterprises leverage AI technologies like Claude and agentic systems to achieve measurable business outcomes. We work with clients globally in Financial Services & Insurance and Healthcare & Life Sciences, deploying pre-built AI Blueprints to rebuild critical business processes. Our unique approach involves embedding engineers and leaders directly into client operations as Forward Deployed Engineers (FDE) and Forward Deployed Executives (FDX). These individuals learn the intricacies of the client's work, implement AI solutions, and take ownership of the outcomes. We emphasize a hands-on, embedded model where engineers spend time in the operator's role before automating, ensuring that solutions are practical and address real-world constraints. This role is for experienced engineers who want to remain hands-on with code while driving significant business impact.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software building experience, with a substantial portion in writing production code for which you were accountable.
- Currently hands-on with coding and intend to remain so.
- Willingness to spend weeks performing an operator's job (claims processing, underwriting, revenue-cycle work) before writing code.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and become conversant in unfamiliar business domains.
- Shipped GenAI/LLM systems to production, including handling post-prototype challenges.
- Experience building or owning an evaluation suite for non-deterministic systems.
- Strong engineering fundamentals, enabling productivity in unfamiliar codebases or languages.
- Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript; depth of experience is more important than breadth of stack.
- Cloud-native delivery experience on AWS (GCP/Azure is a plus), including containers, Kubernetes/ECS, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and CI/CD.
- Credibility with senior stakeholders, capable of holding technical and scoping conversations with business unit heads and CTOs.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a strong sense of ownership.
- Solid AI/ML foundations, understanding model capabilities and failure modes.
- Strong hands-on production experience with Claude Code/Cowork.
- Fluent English, both written and spoken.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience as a founder, CTO, or engineering leader who has returned to individual contribution.
- Deep expertise in one of Provectus's blueprint industries: financial services, insurance, healthcare, asset management.
- Experience in consulting, professional services, or other embedded customer-facing delivery roles.
- Data platform expertise: data lakes, warehouses, streaming analytics, data mesh, data contracts, governance, and data quality.
- Experience with MLOps and classical ML tools like PyTorch, SageMaker, MLflow.
- Experience with fine-tuning, distillation, or inference/serving optimization.
- Experience with graph databases (Neo4j, AWS Neptune).
- Deep IaC experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
- Contributions to open-source projects or public writing on applied AI.
Responsibilities
- Spend the first weeks of an engagement in the operator’s seat, performing the job (e.g., underwriter, analyst, RCM specialist) to understand constraints from the inside.
- Collaborate with operators and Forward Deployed Executives to redesign business functions from first principles.
- Build and ship production GenAI systems, including LLM applications, agentic workflows, and retrieval/extraction pipelines, into customer environments.
- Develop evaluation harnesses and define metrics to ensure AI systems meet business KPIs, moving beyond 'it looked good in testing'.
- Write production code across the full stack, including backend services, data pipelines, and the AI layer, using Python and TypeScript.
- Deploy and manage systems on AWS (or GCP/Azure if required by the customer), ensuring they are containerized, observable, and maintainable.
- Contribute learnings from field engagements back into Provectus's industry blueprints.
- Own the outcome of engagements, working with Forward Deployed Executives to drive business KPIs and ensure system adoption.
- Manage change within the customer organization as part of the engineering job.
- Engage credibly with customer engineers, operators, and executives, and be willing to challenge assumptions.
- Shape and influence customer commitments before they are made, leveraging deep technical understanding.
