About The Position

TaxGPT is hiring a founding Forward Deployed Accountant / Tax Technologist to help accounting firms put TaxGPT into production-ready tax workflows. The role embeds with CPA firms, tax practices, and finance teams to understand how work moves through their organizations, configure and operationalize TaxGPT around those workflows, train teams, and share field insights that inform the product roadmap. This is a customer-facing tax and accounting role—not a pure software engineering or traditional customer success position. The successful candidate brings tax judgment to workflow redesign, helps close gaps between product capabilities and customer needs, and moves from discovery to durable, repeatable playbooks. The role is remote within the United States and requires approximately 30–40% travel, including customer visits and industry events, as well as occasional visits to the San Francisco headquarters. The stated compensation is a base salary of $100,000–$120,000 plus variable compensation of $20,000–$24,000 (20%). The posting also mentions equity and describes the benefits as comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; a 401(k) with match; and life insurance. This is a founding position with visibility into leadership and product strategy, ownership in defining the forward-deployed function, and cross-functional collaboration in a high-trust, high-output team.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in public accounting, tax, firm operations, client accounting services, or a closely related role; experience in a CPA firm or tax practice is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of how accounting firms operate and the ability to communicate credibly with managing partners, tax managers, preparers, and operations leads.
  • Ability to teach new workflows and drive change, adapting explanations to users’ needs.
  • Comfort working with tax returns, research memos, document packages, review notes, and busy-season bottlenecks, and applying judgment to redesign workflows with AI.
  • Ability to act under ambiguity by scoping open-ended problems, developing workable processes quickly, measuring outcomes, and iterating with users.
  • Technical fluency with modern AI tools and tax/accounting software, including the ability to configure products, learn systems quickly, and collaborate with product and engineering teams.
  • Clear, concise communication, low-ego collaboration, and willingness to work in person with customers and teammates.
  • Willingness to travel as customer work requires, typically for periodic onsite visits and industry events.

Nice To Haves

  • Active CPA or EA credential, progress toward one, an MST, or strong tax specialization.
  • Experience implementing tax or accounting software, such as CCH Axcess, Thomson Reuters, Lacerte, UltraTax, Drake, practice-management systems, or document systems.
  • Experience in tax technology, firm transformation, AI enablement, professional-services implementation, or solutions consulting.
  • Early-stage startup experience or a track record of building playbooks while doing the work.
  • Familiarity with AI copilots, retrieval workflows, and prompt/evaluation loops in professional services.
  • Experience leading training programs, change management, or process improvement inside a firm.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with TaxGPT customers to map tax and accounting workflows, identify process, systems, seasonality, and risk constraints, and define success metrics for deployments.
  • Design, pilot, configure, and operationalize AI-powered tax workflows for research, document analysis, preparation support, review, memos, planning, and client work; ensure workflows are robust enough for busy season.
  • Lead implementation and change management, including kickoffs, rollout plans, training for partners, managers, preparers, and operations staff, and handoffs of durable playbooks and internal champions.
  • Work with customers in the product to diagnose workflow breakdowns, identify practical workarounds, and help firms use the product confidently in daily work.
  • Partner with sales, customer success, and product teams on high-value accounts, complex activations, ROI measurement, deeper adoption, and expansion.
  • Identify recurring field patterns, failure modes, edge cases, training gaps, and missing capabilities, and provide concrete, reproducible examples to product and engineering.
  • Build the forward-deployed playbook, including templates, evaluations of real tax tasks, onboarding kits, and implementation patterns.
  • Travel to customer offices and industry events when in-person work is useful, and attend periodic company gatherings at the San Francisco headquarters.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • Life insurance.
  • Equity.
  • Remote-first work from anywhere in the United States, with customer travel as needed and occasional time at the San Francisco headquarters.
  • High-impact founding role with ownership in defining the forward-deployed function.
  • Direct visibility into leadership and product strategy.
  • Cross-functional collaboration in a high-trust, high-output team.
