About The Position

CapWest is hiring a Formwork Estimator for our growing formwork division. This role supports the pre-construction and bid phase, responsible for developing accurate and competitive bids for formwork scopes on high-rise residential and ICI projects throughout the Greater Vancouver region. The Formwork Estimator will work closely with project managers, engineers, operations leadership, and trade partners, owning the full estimating lifecycle from initial inquiry and quantity takeoff through to bid submission, post-tender analysis, site instruction review, and handover to the field team.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5–8 years of formwork estimating experience with a BC-based formwork subcontractor, general contractor, or concrete construction firm.
  • Demonstrated experience estimating high-rise residential concrete structures (15+ stories) and/or ICI projects in Metro Vancouver.
  • Proven track record of successfully bidding and winning projects in the $1M–$20M+ formwork value range.
  • Knowledge of trade practices, market conditions, and building materials.
  • Experience and comfortable working with on-screen takeoff tools and Excel, Bluebeam Revu, OST, ConEst, B2W, Procore, or similar construction platforms.
  • Certificate, diploma, or degree in Building Technology, Construction Management, Construction Technology, and/or PQS.
  • High level of attention to detail to drive accuracy and consistency throughout your work.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with all levels of employees and owners, architects, and subtrades.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on field or supervisory experience in concrete forming is a strong asset.
  • Able to balance multiple deliverables at different phases of completion and complexity.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from architectural, structural, and engineering drawings for wall forms, slab forms, shoring, and reshoring systems.
  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates including labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor components.
  • Prepare and issue RFIs and scope clarification requests.
  • Assemble all estimating input including labour, material, equipment and trade pricing.
  • Solicit, review, and incorporate supplier and equipment rental quotes into bids.
  • Analyze tender documents, specifications, and general conditions to identify risks, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities.
  • Prepare complete well-organized bid submissions meeting owner and GC requirements and deadlines.
  • Review designs to identify areas of improvement and opportunity for cost efficiencies.
  • Complete project scope of work reviews to ensure completeness of estimates, and all technical specifications, subcontractor scopes, and general condition items have been quantified and costed.
  • Build strong relationships and long-term partnership opportunities with our trades and suppliers.
  • Conceptual estimating from preliminary drawings through final cost analysis.
  • Track estimated versus actual costs over the life of the project.
