Graham Packaging Company is looking for a Forklift Operator based in Altavisa, VA. The opening is for a schedule of 7:00 pm - 7:00 am, working 4 days one week and 3 days the next. Forklift Operators perform a combination of product handling and lift truck operating duties to stack, transport, and store work-in-process and finished goods. They supply production lines with an efficient flow of materials, such as knockdowns and dividers, and move finished goods to the warehouse. This role requires accurate and legible completion of line driver reports detailing locations and quantities of raw materials used and finished goods stored. Additionally, Forklift Operators assist production line employees by covering breaks and lunchtime periods. The primary duties involve following all established safety, health, quality GMP and Company policies, procedures, and recognized practices. This includes performing safety lift truck inspections and battery checks, reporting any equipment malfunctions or damage to the Warehouse Manager or Shift Supervisor, changing lift truck batteries and adding water when necessary, and keeping records of battery changes. Participants are expected to engage in continuous quality improvement projects and other related activities as assigned. They will review the daily production schedule with the Shift Supervisor, bring necessary materials to production lines, and notify the supervisor of low material stock. Removing finished goods from production lines and transporting them to assigned warehouse locations is also a key responsibility. Providing accurate information on unloaded materials and materials used or produced to warehouse personnel is essential. The role also involves removing, storing, and unitizing production scrap bales, informing warehouse personnel when a full load is ready, removing excess corrugated from the mezzanine, and emptying the baler as required. Taking full bales of cardboard scrap from the baler to the assigned warehouse location and maintaining accurate records of materials used and produced, reporting them in appropriate paperwork, are also part of the duties. Finished goods and other materials on hold must be removed to their assigned locations, with finished goods stored neatly and at proper height, ensuring all removed items have a product code tag. Participation in physical inventory taking is required. The operator will keep each production line supplied with proper knock down cases, dividers, and pallets, taking full pallets to the warehouse for trailer loading and returning unused cases and dividers to their proper warehouse locations. On limited production, duties may extend to stock-handler tasks or trailer loading. Specific tasks include bringing hot glue cases to the mezzanine, bringing color concentrate to lines, replacing cold glue totes, removing excess cases from the production floor, bringing slip sheets to the production floor, loading storage racks with gaylords, setting up rework, setting up units of product on hold for Q.C., relieving stock handlers, loading and unloading corrugated trailers, and identifying and isolating good corrugated from bad. Following established forklift procedures and completing required safety and maintenance checklists are mandatory. Procedures for damaged finished goods and raw materials must be followed, and reported on the line driver report. Communication with the supervisor regarding shift and machine totals reports, and with other lift truck operators regarding changes or problems, is crucial. Completing written documentation as required and assisting in relieving downstream teammates for breaks and lunches are also expected. The role involves using the forklift to move pallets of finished product to stretch wrap machines and staging areas, or to specified warehouse locations, and completing finished goods reports or worksheets. Maintaining supplies of corrugated and other packaging supplies at each machine and visually inspecting all completed pallets for quality and conformity to packaging instructions are also key responsibilities. Limited travel may be required.
