This is a union position located at our Cambridge Material Recycling Facility. The Forklift Operator operates one or two pieces of equipment including but not limited to baler, front-end loader, bobcat, candensifier or forklift to transport or bind paper or other loose materials to facilitate handling. The role involves sorting and grading material, operating the candensifier, recording materials received or distributed, maintaining inventory records, and compiling worksheets or tickets from customer specifications. The operator ensures material is fed properly onto the conveyor, coordinates the flow of material, and manages the baler's operations by reading monitors, reacting to prompts and alarms, and ensuring proper function. Monitoring and documenting downtime, ensuring safety around working areas, and checking material quality before baling or shipping are also key responsibilities. The operator coordinates with the MRF Manager regarding baling or shipping needs and performs routine maintenance and daily inspections on equipment, including lubricating, fueling, and cleaning. They also maintain a supply of wire for the baler, operate various equipment to move material, keep work areas clean, and unload, tag, and stack material. Loading and unloading materials into or out of trailers and railcars, moving material from the baler, and dumping containers, bins, and gaylords are also part of the duties. The role requires reading loading/unloading sheets and bills of lading, completing tally sheets, inspecting and grading wastepaper, and ensuring vehicle condition reports are filled out properly. Compliance with all safety policies and procedures is mandatory, along with performing other assigned duties.
