Forklift Operator
About The Position
Forklift Operators are responsible for efficiently sorting, handling, loading, and unloading palletized and non-palletized freight. This role requires the use of appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including pallet jacks and forklifts. Operators will secure freight inside trailers, work in a safe and efficient manner adhering to company safety policies, and use mobile handheld devices to scan and track shipments. The work environment is a dock that is not climate-controlled and may require extended periods in such conditions. Physical requirements include lifting freight up to 50 lbs frequently and occasionally over 70 lbs, safely walking and standing for extended periods, and performing various physical movements such as reaching, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, squatting, and kneeling.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Able to do basic math calculations, with and without a calculator
- Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
- Lift freight and other objects of various shapes, sizes and weights (frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally greater than 70 lbs.)
- Safely walk and stand for extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery
- Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel as necessary
Nice To Haves
- Dock or warehouse experience in the transportation industry
- Forklift experience in a freight or less-than-truckload (LTL) environment
- Experience loading and unloading trailers
- Strong attention to detail and desire to succeed
